Yeah, if you take those studs out for the alternator it is a big help, I recall that there are 3 of them. Once those are out of the way, you can squeak the alt out by the side of the exhaust manifold if you flatten down the heat shield first. You'll have just enough room to get it out. Good luck!!
This method worked on a 2005 Ford Focus ZXW.

have the alt tested there not very good do you have 12 volts going to the big wire on the alt and with key on you should have it to a small wire going to the regulator to turn it on

You unbolt the alternator. Unclip the fans from the rad. Let the fans drop down without unbolting anything. Pull the alt out from the top. Its that easy.... Install is opposite.
