Could be something as simple as the ignition timing.
You may have a vacuum leak = cracked, dislodged, loose hoses.
Check PCV valve is working properly.
Check carby float level.
Excessive carbon on the valves and sprak plugs can cause post ignition just as easily as pre ignition.
