If you do your own work, you will want to buy a Bentley manual for your car. (available on Amazon) It will have your wiring diagrams as well as pretty much everything else you need to know.
Is the problem in a switch? The most common problem with BMW seats of that vintage are broken nylon gears. Some of the nylon gears are available from places like OdometerGears.com. Much cheaper to buy a nylon gear than to buy a new gearbox from the dealer.
