2001 mazda protege keeps stalling
my 2001 mazda protege keeps stalling when I stop for stoplight the check engine light is on the computer keeps reading oxygen sensor I replaced both of them what else could it be??

I have already replaced the air intake hose and the air filter.

- I have the same problem with the jumping and staling when car idles in drive at a stop light, we then adjusted the idle and it only briefly fixed it. Also about 2 weeks ago I notice in drive at low rpm's there is a ticking noise that goes to a knocking noise as the rpms get higher and then fade away at about 55-60mph. When the hood is open the noise is louder and sounds like it's coming from the mid to bottom of motor. Do you know what this could be? Sounds like thumping metal.Current millage is 57,000. It's a 2001 Mazda protege DX 1.6L automatic
Yes there is new oil in engine, new spark plugs, and air filter at 55,000 - candsdevore

- My '97 idles rough and stalls when braking or when stopped after running at normal temperature. I believe I need to clean the IAC valve but am not sure. Any ideas?- dabarber21Solution #1

When the air filter is replaced, sometimes the tube between the air filter and the air intake manifold gets torn. If you have an air leak on the tube, it will cause al kinds of jumping and stalling issues. If a tear or hole is noticed, just put some tape over it for a quick check. If that works, replace the tube. Paul
