Heater won't turn on

the hotest side as its warming up heater on feel it a engine aproaches op temp

There are only 2 reasons for a problem like yours. Either the water is not going through the heater core or the ductwork under the dash has a problem. For checking the water flow, warm the truck up and then feel both water hoses connected to the heater core. They should both be hot if the water is flowing. If they are both as warm, then the problem is inside the cabin under the dash. If they are not equally warm, there is a problem with water flow.

Tip- For a time the manual heat control models(Not electronic) used a heater knob which could break on the backside of the knob. When it does this, the heater control shaft will not turn as the knob is just spinning in place. Gently pry the knob off and then twist the control shaft to see if it will now work.

Blower you mean? Not even on high setting?

Blown fuse,relay or defective switch.

the heater vacuum motor and lines needs to be checked.Also get the blend door checked.

Only way to get smoke (steam) billowing in is a faulty heater core. It won't steam until the engine is warm. You should also be smelling an odor unless you have pure water in your cooling system. That vehicle requires the removal of the steering column and entire dashboard to replace the heater core.

Do you know how to carefully feel heater hoses to see if coolant getting to heater core is hot enough? Has thermostat been changed lately, and coolant system flushed?

have someone check the blend air door for being stuck

Where is the thermostat in a dodge dakota 1992 located? Flushed it yesterday still just have heat blowinf ti side vents rather cool windsheild defrost. Maybe there is another problem?
