Loss of Power / Over Heating

I am experiencing a loss of power and engine overheating. The 3782 engine starts as normal but when driving has a lot less power and after use of about 10-15 minutes loss of power will be severe in all gears max speed maybe 20mph at a push. Engine will also be overheating and higher reading than normal 180 to 200 Fahrenheit. There is also a burning smell in the cab. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Eeek, sounds like a possible head gasket failure. Check your coolant and oil. If the coolant is low top it off, and if the oil is milky, you are getting coolant in your oil which is usually a bad head gasket.

hanks for advise, sorry for my lack of knowledge but do I do this just by using the oil dipstick or does it need to be drained to tell accurately? Also a few people have mentioned it could be filters or thermostat and gasket for thermostat does this sound possible? Thanks again for your help.

SOURCE: a8 4.2 v8 engine overheating

run it and let it get hot (not to the point of overheating just let it warm up to normal or slightly above normal).  put your hand near the upper radiator hose, if you feel not heat, touch it, be careful as it may be hot.  if it is not hot at all but the engine is warmed up it is the thermostat, the thermostat is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the motor, usually a 2bolt metal fitting, if this is the case just replace the thermostat.

Loss of Power Over Heating

Check the oil to see if its milky. If it is you need to have your compression checked to see if your head gasket is blown.

Loss of power

Loss of power after running for a while can be caused by anything from a partially clogged catalytic converter to engine overheating due to a faulty engine cooling system. Lots of other things can cause it as well.

Power steering loss, overheating, dash board power

It sounds to me like the serpetine belt broke, DO NOT continue to drive it. The water pump (for engine cooling), the power steering pump, and the alternator (electrical system) are no longer operating. Have it towed to a shop or have someone put a new belt on it.
