I assume this is an automatic transmission, you didn't say.
There is no dip stick on the transmission any longer.
You will have to go under the car to check. You may want to go to your local instant oil change and have them check the level.
If you feel you want to check it, here is a description of the location and process.

Make certain the vehicle remains level while checking the fluid.
Located just above the top sealing flange of the transmission oil pan you will find a threaded plug. Remove the plug and see if transmission fluid drips out of the hole. If so, the fluid level is correct. If not, remove the red fill cap on top of the transmission, driver side. Add fluid to the transmission until fluid dribbles out of hole.
Replace and tighten the plug.
Good luck.
Regards,

Serivce dept changed ront out put shaft seal, after that leak of transmission fluid on garage floor. Is this seal the threaded plug you are talking about. The garage said they will replace for free, I 'm worried about damage to transmission. Should I be?

The seal on the output shaft is not the same as the threaded plug. The threaded plug is used to check the fluid level and the shaft seal prevents fluid from leaking out of the transmission. There should not be any damage to the transmission, when the seal was changed it may not have been installed properly or there could be another problem.
Good luck, get it fixed as soon as possible.

If your sunfire has the ecotech engine it does not have a dipstick and can only be serviced by the dealer

Where do I check my transmission fluid in a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.2L

The Pontiac Sunfire automatic transmissions are "sealed" and have no fluid dipstick. All they have is a plug in the transmission, and the fluid should be filled to the level of that plug. I've never liked that setup, but it is what it is. A mechanic can easily check the fluid level with the car on a lift.

the red cap on top of the transmission..best to take it to a mechanic so you don't over fill...since theres no dip stick to check.

1997 pontiac sunfire no ****** dip stick how much fluid to put in

It will probably be easier to take it to a regular repair shop to have it checked. There is a small bolt that comes out to verify fluid level after it's warmed up and still running. It's too hard to describe where the level plug is located and it can be dangerous to check & fill without experience.

On 2000 pontiac sunfire. When pouring transmission fluid in to fill hole. Should the car be running while pouring the fluid in 2 the fill hole.

Turn the car off. There is no reason to have it on when filling with the fluid. Be careful not to overfill.

2005 pontiac sunfire 2.2 ecotec. when i put in drive i hear a loud bang and when driving has a quieter bang when shifts gears the motor mounts don't move much what could it be?

Sounds like transmission is low on fluid and gears are banging together when they shift. Probably should check the level and add to fill and hope that no damage has been done. I hope that helps you figure out your problem.

Today I checked and added some tranny fluid to my 98 pontiac sunfire and now im having trouble shifting when i didn't before i checked it. what could be the problem?

as long as you didn't overfill the transmission, it shouldn't be giving you any shifting problems, unless , for some strange reason , there is a air blockage, and this is unusal, "next start the car up, and then let it run , while you pull out the transmission dip stick, and let it run for a very short time, while you go through the gears with the gear selector , then replace the dipstick, and re check the fluid level again, and then drive the car, and then see how it is shifting. also, make sure that the transmission fluid that you put in the car was the right kind for your car, " it should be dexron transmission fluid.

Adding transmission fluid to 98 pontiac sunfire

There is a plug located on top of the transmission under the brake master cylinder. It is held in place by a bolt on the side of the transmission near the firewall. Remove the bolt, then remove the plug. Fill it until the fluid comes out of the hole.

Check automatic transmission fluid 2001 pontiac sunfire

You need to raise the vehicle and start it. Remove the plug near where the passenger side driveshaft comes out. The head of the plug is 7/16. Trans fluid will stream out of the hole when the engine is running when the transmission is full, If fluid doesn't run out, fill the trans until fluid runs out. The fill cap is red and it is on top under and around the air cleaner box. If you need more help let me know.

No motor manual what type of transmission fluid is recommended

Check with chevy a dealership service (phone call) , there are 2 different types if your car is an automatic. If your car is a standard , it could be gear lube , or even Automatic trans fluid.
