They make stuff called k-seal. It comes in a little blue bottle. What you have to do is dump it in the radiator run the car with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens. Continue to drive the car without the cap until leak is fixed. If you keep the cap on the pressure will build and blow the seal. I've watched radiator lines get sealed infront of me with that stuff.

The engine must be torn down to repair the cooling passage seals, there is no way other than that to fix this, while u are in there might as well overhaul the engine.

I have an 84 d100 with a slant 6 that smokes more than Cheech n Chong. What can I do to fix it?

DOES IT USE OIL? BLUEISH SMOKE? POSSIBLE VALVE SEALS, IF SO YOU CAN REBUILD THE HEADS OVERLAP THE VALVE SEALS, OR NEW HEADS, IF ITS WHITE AND USING COOLANT, GO TO PARTS HOUSE GET A COMBUSTION GASES TESTER AND TEST FOR COMBUSTION GASES IN COOLANT, THAT WOULD BE HEAD GASKETS

When i start my 84 toyota truck 22r i notice white smoke coming out of the exhaust...

If your not overheating or losing coolant, its more than likely engine oil burning. If it is coolant related, possible blown head gasket.

I have a rx7 series 5 13 B turbo motor the car starts and runs really well but once the car warms up its starts smoking and increases then after driving it the smoke starts to die down alot

The side seals for the rotors are bad. the only thing you can do is pull the engine apart and replace the seals IF the side housings are good. If they are bad, you cant machine them, they are JUNK. Find a shop that rebuilds Mazda Rotary engines. Mazda may be the best place to get a reman engine.

Is a 93 rx7 with 40,000 kilomters a reasonable car to buy for 3500$ stock car auto

how does the exhaust look? when you rev up do you see blue or black smoke? if black smoke it just might need some new spark plugs and injector service how ever blue smoke is a sign of worn comperssion seals, which means an engine tear down or replacement, the choise is yours, it a good rebuild platform if you are up to it.

87 RX7 - smoking exhast for several miles then stops

well, when you turn off the rotary it leaves oil and gas.so when you start it up, it burns off the oil you left causeing blueish smoke. same problem with flooding, when you drive short distance , warmup incorrectly or if use synthetic oil.to fix the cause of flooding(i have the same vehicle and problems)let it warm up for at least 15 min.there is also a fuel pump wire next to the fuse box located above the brake pedal.then you tap a switch from the fuel pump to your interior.the reoson being is so whenever you come to a stop to park flip the swith.that allows the rotar to burn the fuel left in the pump witch will make your rx7 to stutter out and die.when you start it back up ,flip the swicth back on and it will take an extra second for it to crank over.1 more thing, check your oil every 2-3 fills on gas and change oil every 2000 miles.also redline it at least one a week. i hope i just solved your problem because i love my 87 non turbo and know how you feel.if you want to look at cheap aftermarket parts for rx7 then go to srmotorsports.com/rx7guru.com is a guy that test parts to tell people wats good and cheap for rx7s.i would recomend roll cage and 5 point harness-seats.good luck with your rx7 bro

My rx7 blows bule whight smoke when i let off

Hi Ross,

As a rule:
  • Black Smoke = Unburnt Fuel, incomplete combustion, bad mix
  • Blue Smoke = Burning Oil
  • White Smoke = Water Vapor, Water getting where it shouldn't be.
White smoke is common in cold weather when you first start your vehicle. It's from condensation. But it should stop as the engine warms up. If it doesn't, the moisture is from another source.

Questions:

  1. Are the smoke episodes accompanied by a loss of power?
  2. Was your coolant level low before you changed the coolant?
  3. Did it overheat? Badly?
I'm leaning toward a partial failure of the head gasket. Here is some info, things to look for and tests to confirm.

Symptoms:
  • Uncontained compression in one or more cylinders = lack of power
  • Coolant seeping into cylinders through the gasket breach creates white smoke
  • Oil seeping into cylinders creates blue smoke
Things to look for:
  • Coolant levels low. As the coolant is burned off, you'll notice the levels are lower
  • Oil in the coolant. If oil is present in the radiator, it's coming from the engine. Another indicator of a failed head gasket. Only a confirmation though, lack of oil does not rule out the possibility.
  • Water in the oil. Pull the oil dipstick. Is it milky and frothy, like it's been whipped? If so coolant is getting into the oil. Again, an indicator, not a confirmation of a blown head gasket.
  • Is the oil level dropping?
The quickest, easiest and (most importantly) cheapest confirmation of this is to run a compression test on each cylinder. I'm surprised your mechanic didn't suggest it.

The test should show high and fairly close compression (100psi or more) on all cylinders. If any of them are significantly lower, something is allowing the gasses to escape. Since piston ring failures would produce blue smoke, not white, that leaves the head gasket.

If you feel comfortable doing it yourself, testers are available at any auto parts store for under $30.00. If you don't, any shop can do it in under half an hour.

All this is to pin point the problem. Then you know what you are dealing with.

Comment me back with your findings.
