1993 suburban C1500 2wd trans trouble

automatic trans right??? and for sure had manual box too. a/t or m/t??????????????
day1,new sold options.
check tranny linkage first, or shift cables.
and fluid levels.? good?, hot engine idle in park?
and fuses
and scan the PCM
but most times reverse failing is bad news.
aside from cable shifters failing.
the cables are 20 years old.
uses how many times, shifted now. gee huge.
and cables do fail for sure RUST there happens.

the service manual tells how to check the shifter
in PRNDL, to be sure it shifts into tranny selector detents properly. , even make sure Park works can car not be able to be pushed brakes off.

very limited info generic answer check for trouble codes -- trans fluid level -smell and look at color --possible need flush and filter

It may be a vacuum leak that is causing the high idle and shifting problem. Check all the vacuum hoses for cracks or to see if any have come unplugged. Hope this helps.

First check the level of fluid in your transmission, if its an automatic , there will be a dipstick on top of transmission and there is a line on dipstick when its warm running usually in neutral.( will say on dipstick if you run vehicle in neutral or in park), if car is a standard, theres a plug on side of trans. usually have to do this under vehicle. pull plug with car level and put finger in hole and if you cant feel fluid on finger its low. also in automatics if fluid is dark and not clear or bright red and stinks (with a burnt smell ) its usually means you have transmission problems. if fluid is low you have a leak and if went to long low on fluid chances are transmission is bad.

check fluid level AND condition...should a red color...if its discolored, in any way, flush it and change the filter too...then perhaps there is a band that is out of adjustment allowing the flare up, and it suddenly grabs getting the hard shift....or else trans is worn out....check the fluid

Did you change the transmission filter and gasket as well as the transmission oil before running your truck.

sounds like the pump got over stressed in the turn blew the impeller and is no longer pumping fluid , need new pump.

Try changing your transmission filter.then replace with new trans,fluid.

sounds like a shift solenoid in the trans.

Check to make sure that you somehow did not disconnect or move any linkage that goes from the carburetor (or injection air inlet if you have f/i) to the transmission. on many vehicles this linkage controls internal trans pressure and can influence shift points and application harshness. Your post indicates that you were sleeping when you changed the filter...Don't work on cars unless you are awake!!!
PS: If you have f/i, you would have to be underneath the car...did you somehow cut a wire or catch trans linkage when lifting it?
