How do you read the oil level correctly on dipstick to 1995 Saab 900S?

  • ggiosi Mar 23, 2009

This dipstick has an odd ''hour glass'' shaped indicator at the end of it. How do I read this? Thanks. 1995 Saab 900S.

All dipsticks have an upper and lower mark ..the top mark is the full mark and the lower mark is the add oil mark. Check it with the engine off on level ground.  Also after the motor running at take a few minutes for the oil to return to the oil pan to get an accurate reading.
Do not overfill.

1995 Saab 900S - Engine stops. Oil changed, other

I hope you win your bet but, the drain for the oil is center of the oil pan. There are no other drain plugs near that. They may have drained the differential or transfer case by mistake if that is a front wheel drive. If they over filled your engine oil they should be repairing the engine though. Transmission fluid is red and it would have been obvious they drained that by mistake so I would agree that wasn't what was drained.

How do I find the dipstick for the manual gearbox fluid for a 1995 Saab 900 SE - 2.5 V6?

You may not find a dipstick as the gearbox may not have one!! Some are leveled through the speedo drive aperture. Some have a level plug on the side of the housing. This level plug is also used to top up the level by adding fluid and then allowing the excess to run out until it stops.. The speedo drive type, you remove the drive from the housing and when you look into the aperture, you will see a ledge, fill the housing until the fluid is level with this ledge. Refit the drive and all should be well. Some have a level which is underneath the gear lever boot and you need to remove the boot to access it..

Where is the thermostat in a 900s oh. 97 saab 900S Well my car was overheating and I notice in this model car if you need your oil changed it will overheat. So there is oil and all my fluids are full...

Oil change interval has nothing to do with operating temperature. If your coolant is full, feel the upper radiator hose, when the vehicle is up to temp. if cool , thermostat is back from that hose,

Look for air bleeds, and read owners manual, some cars have coolant bleeds. Also, heater on high when filling coolant or risk bubbles...

My thought is that your fans may not be kicking in. They should cycle on and keep temp low enough. test them.

Reading the gauge on the oil dipstick 1998 saab 900

The dip stick end should have a plastic square piece with two roundish bulbs on each end. The oil level should read just at the bottom of the top bulb (the bulb nearest the yellow cap at the top end of the dip stick). This indicates full. A level reading anywhere between the two bulbs is adequate but not optimal. Oil below the top end of the bottom bulb, means 1 quart low, and no oil at all on the bottom bulb means get some oil in there double quick.
