At first it wasnt getting gas to the carb so i changed the fuel pump problem solved but it would cough back thru the carb so i changed the diaphram and fuel filter by the carb now it acts like it looses all power so I changed the coil and starter solenoid and the icm on the outside of the distributer and now its backfiring and you cant even drive it it idles fine its the 2.8 v-6 motor it seems like anything I do makes it worse
How's the inside of the cap and rotor ? It could be cross-firing inside the cap.
You could also have a major vac leak somewhere and the engine is starving for fuel.
Testimonial: "the cap and rotor look ok but it still just just looses it when you try to accelerate and when you try to just keepn it at a constant speed"
SOURCE: I have 96 Ford probe gt, sputters and backfires under throttle
check fuse that controlls fuel
SOURCE: runs rough/worse, backfire sputters, smell fuel
make sure all wires are secure on the plugs. Make sure that if you bought the plugs aftermarket, that they are the suggested equipment from the Ford (http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/fordtaurus20002000motorcraftmisp432154315.html Make sure the plugs (gap) were not damaged during installation. Check the firing order is correct. (1,4,2,5,3,6)
