No odometer light or gear shift light on my 1999 Buick Century. Is there just a bulb that might need replacing or do I have to take the whole dashboard out? The rest of the lights on the dashboard work fine. If so, how do you do this?

Thanks Johnyboyy & Sam35edm! I checked my fuse (10amp) and it looked ok. I replaced it and the lights for the odometer and gear shift indicator both lighted up. I then inspected the old fuse and it looked a little tarnished on the contacts. I then cleaned the contacts on both sides of the original fuse with a razor blade to remove the tarnish. The light lit brighter than ever! Looks like the fuse wasn't making good contact in its socket because of the tarnish.

Ok i went to canadian tire, and the guy there said it can be one of three things: 1. Check all fuse which are related to the cluster, so make sure all the fuses have a good conection with the box. 2. check if the cable which connects the cluster to the rest of the car, is properly grounded, because even if one cable is off the gear shifter/odomitor wont work. 3.Make sure that the fuse box is working.

No gear indicator, replaced cluster, odometer and PRNDL lights on, but no indicator light for gears. ????? Swapped out instrument cluster, gears displayed on other vehicle, (both instrument clusters)

I had a similar situation. No odometer, fuel gage, etc. Turned out to be loose connection in the relay box that is closest to the battery cables. I opened the box and reinserted the connections. It happened again and I took a hammer and gave the black box a whack and it started working again. I found that when the car is running, my wife behind the steering wheel an me under the hood, that when I manipulate the box she hears a click under the dash and the symptoms appear and disappear. That is where I would direct my attention. I understand it is a common problem on this model from a Buick mechanic.

2000 silverado millage reading wont light up

This is a common problem and it requires the cluster be removed form the truck and sent out to a speedo repair center near you (call your local GM dealer for a location) to have the odometer module replaced, about $175.00 repair.

Speedometerworks, but odometer/tripmeter stopped

The odometer/trip meter work together via a IC and pulse motor. I just replaced the Instrument cluster in my 94 Corolla DX. I purchased a used cluster that had 230,000 miles showing( mine was 199,000). It' a "plug and play" system, electronic analog. The cluster I purchased the trip meter didn't function, I removed the speedometer from the cluster and applied some silicone spray to the plastic gears and now it's working, (the plastic gears are very fragile and after many miles and years they are prone to breakage). If you are lucky this might be a solution, If not buy a used instrument cluster and install it yourself and hope for the best (used). I didn't have a tachometer on my original cluster so I purchased a cluster with a Tach. The 94 DX and LE should be "plug and play",not sure about the CE. The change is quite simple tow screws remove the bezel, 4 screws remove the cluster, unpluy the connectors, 2 white 1 blue. The cluster was $55.00

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. THe instrument cluster is gone. Does this affect the SUV in any way.

Probably not, you just won't know what's going on in your engine and your speed. What do you mean it is gone? All gauges are not moving, no warning lights on, no gear selector or odometer display?
Check fuses #22 & 24 in the underhood fuse panel. If fuses are good, problem could be a bad cluster or a break in the data lines to the cluster.

2001 dodge grand caravan sport speedometer not working, gear selector has all lights lit and does not change when changing gears. My husband says that is seems to be in low gear when driving. odometer, gas...

The speedometer is operated by a cable to the transmission. The gear selector is also a manual linkage. Neither are electronic. There may be something stuck underneath inferring with them directly.

Odometer doesn`t work

Thanks. The odometer is driven by plastic gears inside the instrument cluster. Since the speedo works we know the info is getting to the cluster so the plastic gears are obviously stripped or broken. This is pretty common on these vehicles.

You'll need to replace the cluster or have it repaired.

1999 buick century odometer light does not work

this is a common problem and the dash cluster must be removed and sent out for repair, cost is about $175 to replace the LED (Light emitting diode) display that has burned out, this is a faxtory defect as far as this expert is concerned, it is not a fuse problem.

1989 Audi 500 se Automatic - Speedomoter

The gear on the odometer is stripped. Quite the common problem with Audi's of this vintage. Parts available at: http://speedometergears.com/

To fix, you have to pull the gauge cluster, remove the speedo from the cluster, then remove the odometer from the speedo. The gear replacement is pretty easy once you get it all apart.
