Have you checked the level of the transmission oil ? The level does not have to be down much to encounter the type pf problem you are having. With the oil warm and the engine idling in neutral, the Transmission dipstick should show the level between the low and full marks.
The trick is to snake your arm down the back, ajacent to the maifold pipe, and unplug the wiring harness. Should be a 10mm socket to unscrew the bolt that holds the sensor in place. Once the screw was out it was easy to pull the sensor out and rush to Auto Zone and get a new one. Reverse the process in putting the sensor in.
just a guess but Id look for a bad chasis ground. I say this cuz the interior light switch for the door is a normally- open - grounding. The test for this theory would be to run a jumper wire from the neg batt terminal to the body, or from the eng to the body/chasis.
Most Ford Taurus wagons have a transmission that generally goes first. that's the main reason. Just something to do with the way they are built. The only advice that I could offer is either replace the tranny or just not run the a/c. Usually it's just the motor working twice as hard running the a/c and that in turn puts the computer into the phase of lower gears for the transmission. there in being the problem.
