What can I do to eliminate lifter noise in my 1994 Nissan pathfinder? It just started making the noise about 2 weeks ago. Is it adjustable? Should I use synthetic oil, thicker oil?

The VG30E engine has hydraulic valve lifters so there is no adjustment possible. You can try replacing the oil and filter, substituting one quart of ATF for one quart of oil. Let it go for 3,000 miles and do it again if necessary. If after the third time the tapping is still there, you will need to replace the hydraulic lifters.

SOURCE: Lifter clicking sound in 4.6 engine

it could be your tensioner. it sounds like a clicky squeak. sometimes it may go away but it always comes back. thats what mine is but i havent fixed it yet. i doubt you can grease it, you probably need it replaced. not expensive, at least the part should be under 100 bucks

SOURCE: Valve Lifter Noise on 2001 525.

The Castrol synthetic 5W20 oil may be too light for your car. None of the following three sources recommend 5W20 oil.

Per Bentley manual for 1999 and later E39 BMW (excluding M5), BMW HP 5W30 synthetic oil (07 51 0 017 866) is recommended.
Per the Mobil Oil web site, Mobil 1 synthetic 0W40 oil is recommended.
Per the Castrol Oil web site:
SM 5W-30 - Thank you for inquiring about what oil is best for your vehicle. Based on the information you provided, your vehicle requires a special engine oil that can only be purchased at your local dealer. Please visit your local dealer to ensure that your vehicle is serviced properly.

Does the noise vary or is it constant? Noticed only at startup or all the time?
Another ticking noise source could be the VANOS unit.

SOURCE: weired sound in engine arround 2100 rpm, pathfinder 2005

Take a look at Nissan Technical Service Bulletin NTB05-15b. Title = "Rattle Noise From Vias Power Valve Actuator / Intake Manifold Collector" This appears to describe your problem exactly. I have the same problem with my 2005 Xterra and I am going to try the recommended fix myself at home.

1994 nissan pathfinder engine make low whining noise when excellerating

It sounds like a ground issue. If you have an amp connected to your stereo check the negative ground and remount to a different spot. If not it could be the belts or possible wheel bearing.

Thats what I think because the car has such low milage 25000km . It normally is only started or driven 1 or 2 times a month . About a week ago my sister started it and it had a bad mis and the lifters...

Check your oil level. If the oil level is OK, start the engine and let it run. The noise from the lifters will go away after 10 to 15 minutes of idling. The lifters have only "bled down" due to non-use....They just have to pump up again.

Engine rattle betweem 2-35k rpm. connecting rod bearing was replaced two weeks ago

Have you ever had the lifters checked?
lifters can make a heck of a noise if a lifter is dished and the push rod is got a lot of slop in it.

Hi i have a ticking noise in my vg30e pathfinder, i believe it may be a hydrolic lifter, what are the adjustment specifications

The lifters on your vehicle would not be adjustable, so depending on mileage, a lifter could need replacing. Listen to this sound to determine if it is at engine speed, or at camshaft speed, which is half as fast. If at engine speed, it could be any number of things. If at camshaft speed, it couild be a broken vavle spring, a sticky valve or a noisy lifter.

2004 nissan pathfinder fan noise

I had the same problem in my Pathfinder a couple months ago. It's most likely your fan clutch. I had mine replaced, and the noise went away. And it seems that it is the cold weather causes this.
