Most likely the hinge is not bad, but the hinge pin bushings are bad. You can buy the hinge pins and the bushings at your local auto parts store. They come in a kit. Hope this info is helpful.

It will take 2 people to do this. First take a pry bar or a big screwdriver and pry out the spring that holds the door open. It is located on the upper hinge I believe. Next get a floor jack and a piece of 2x4 to support the door about mid way. Raise the jack so that the 2x4 just touches the bottom of the door. Next use a hammer to knock out the old hinge pins.(remember what way the pins came out. From top to bottom or bottom to top. They will be installed the same way they came out.) Have a friend balance the door on the jack as you move it away from the hinges about 2 or 3 inches. Before you knock out the bushings look closely at them and where they go because each hinge has 2 bushings and the hole in the bushings are different sizes. If you look at the pins you will notice that the pin diameter is larger at the head of the pin than at the end of the pin. Knock out the old bushings and install the new ones in their proper place. Put a little bit of grease on each bushing then move door back into place. Line up the holes and install the pins by hand until the pin is almost all the way in .Then use a hammer to drive the pin in until pin head is against hinge. Putting the spring back in is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT if you don't have the tool that's made for putting the spring back in. You might be able to borrow one at Pep Boys, AutoZone etc. Each door should take about half an hour to do. I hope this helps you out. Good luck.

How to remove door bushings

The only door bushings I am aware of are the ones on the hinge pins. Correct? If not, please clarify what you mean.
New pins come with new bushings, and the hinges are welded on so the pins are pretty much the only items replaceable. Not a fun job - because of the door stop springs you will need a spring compressor, and you will also need a special tool to drive out the old pins. However, both are available from a parts store or Amazon.
Just open the door and support it from the bottom, and then go for it, one pin at a time - for the upper pin, compress and remove the small spring, drive out the old pin, drive in the new pin and put the spring back. No spring on the bottom hinge - just replace the pin.

How do I replace the long screw that holds the door up on the door hinges,on a '97 gmc Sonoma?

I have done a 100 of these.

The hardest part is going to be to reinstall the spring on the lower hinge arm. this is not a screw but rather a pin.
There are two hinges that hold the door to body.
when the upper and lower pins are removed the door will come away from body, it is important that before you remove the pins you take a look at the hinges.
Pay close att. to the way the hinges sit inside each other and the way the pins go in. see if they go from top to bottom or from bottom to top. also note where the copper bushings sit in hinges. each hinge has one pin and two copper bushings top go into hinge.
Over time the pins and bushings wear out ,making door hard to open and close. When the pins and bushings get so bad that the bushing is worn out and then the pins are now wearing into the hinge hole itself then this get tricky. if hinge hole is egg shaped the new bushings will not last. the door will hang again in a few weeks. this is where is get costly, the hinges now need replacing. i have gotten good at welding the holes and filing them back to shape but this takes skill or hole will be wrong and bushing will not fit or line up.

Here is a youtube video to help you.
Take note. put jack stands under door with cloth to avoid scratching door.this is to hold door when pins are removed. have somone help you, they will hold door on stands. the wires will still run through door, pull door away from body a little to allow room to work.remove the spring, it will fall out as you remove pins, remove old bushings, clean hinge area and holes, next install new bushings, apply lube to holes for pins and on bushings, slide door back on frame hinges and install pins, next slide lock washers on pins to hold pins. last is the spring. you will need a spring tool, you may rent one at auto parts store. hope this helps good day.

How to remove drivers side door 1993 olds ciera

If you have any electrical controls in the door open the panel and disconnect them so you can remove teh door from the wiring harness. otherwise, open the door and support it on the outer edge away from teh hinges, use an impact driver with proper bit fitted to it, available at Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Advance Auto, or Sears (it uses a hammer to generate torque energy to break the torque in tight spots like an impact wrench) Remove the lower Hinge screws or bolts (These are usually a large Phillips head or a Half Inch bolt head), Then remove the upper retaining screws or bolts. To make it a little easy to handle if you are doing this by yourself, remove all of the screws or bolts from the lower hinge then put 1 back in a couple of turns just to hold the hinge. Repeat the process for the upper hinge. after doing this empty your hands, lift the door slightly and remove the 2 screws or bolts you put back in. after removing the door remove the hinges from the door side so you can use them in the new door.

My 1993 Ford F250 driver side door will not shut unless I lift up on the door from the outside. Is it the door hinges that need replacing or what?

You may have to replace the hinges but most aftermarket suppliers have pin and bushing kits to repair your existing hinges. A phone call to your auto parts supplier can probably fix you up for a fraction of the price of new hinges.

When you go about fixing the door, an old bumper jack is the best tool to use, if you have one. It will support the end of the door while you remove hinges and make adjustments.Otherwise you will need a helper. BE SURE to mark the position of the hinges before you remove them so you can put them back on easily. If you don't mark them it can take a looooong time to get them adjusted properly. Hope this helps.

I need to replace the hinge pins in my 2000 yukon suv. I have a kit from NAPA, but I need some pointers on how to get the old pins out and install the new ones.

The pins are pressed in. The door must be opened and setting on a platform to rest on for security. The pins hold the door on your truck you know. You may have a coiled spring on one hinge. If so purchase a spring compressor at Auto Zone auto parts or any auto parts store. Have a center punch to hammer out the pins. I would remove one pin and replace it then go to the next one. The upper will have the most wear from the weight hanging from the door. Do both pins of couse to save the door lock from malfunctiong later. A sagging door will ruin a door latch in time
