Seems to not get fuel

When first started it starts fine with no issues if you drive a few miles down the road and shut it off and restart it the motor will start and stall or it seems to take a few minutes before it wants to start. Plus when you get up to about 55mph every now and then it seems to be gasping for fuel and it feels like the motor is going to stall but don't. Changed the fuel filter but it still does it the fuel pump kicks on when you turn the key on and goes off after a few so not sure what is causing this maybe the fuel pump relay?

Figured out what the issue was and I didnt even think about it at the time but the throttle body was in need of being cleaned and that hole in it was completely clogged I ran a drill bit through it and it seems to be starting fine now

OK dose your engine light ever come on serivice engine soon mil light or is it on now If so then its a sensor problem with is not uncommon and easly repaired but you need to take the vehicle to your local auto parts store and have the engine code or codes read most places will do this at no charge and will be able to tell you witch sensor or sensors are the problem and most are placed so they can be easly removed and replaced If your not getting MIL light and you have done plugs and wires you should check the disturbtor cap and rotor they are just as important as plugs and wires and all should be replace at the same time during a regular tune up along with the PCV valve. If this dosn;t fix the problem then its afuel delivery issue witch means the vehicle is starving for gasthis could be the fuel filter is not leting enough fuel throw or the fuel pump is not pumping enough fuel. You said you have removed the filter once before so you know how to do it get a new one and before you put it in take a plastic bottle and the fuel line that comes from the pump and stick it in the bottle crank the engine for about 5 seconds the pump should fill the bottle about a thrid of the way up if you get less fuel then that the pump needs to be replaced and i mean a lot less if its close it is ok. BUT REMEMBER its a lot cheaper and easyer to fix the vehicle when you first see that there is a problem then to wieght because little problems have a way of turning into big costly ones good luck

If a vehicle shuts off while driving down the road. then restarts after about 10 minutes, its a bad crank sensor or the wiring to the sensor. A check engine light may not turn on. If the light is on. You can take it to any auto parts store to have the code read by a scanner for free. Auto-zone, Advanced ETC. Its worth a try! But first check the fuel pump relay, It may be getting hot and shutting down pump. Try swapping a relay of the same type, if it is ok, thats the problem. Hope this helps!

Why does my 93 Honda Accord run fine and then dies going down the road and will start again and die again?

There is a black fuel relay way up under the top left driver side dash that breaks its main wire solder connections on the circuit board under over-heat conditions. Resolder that relay. Starting fluid will show that you have lost fuel delivery under no start conditions. You can use the breather hose from the valve cover for this test.

Hi, 1997 monte carlo that idles, but cuts out when put in gear, or at times while driving. 3.1 engine. 184,000 mi.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have a similar or maybe even the same issue with mine. It usually starts up fine, and idles and runs fine when first started, however a few blocks or a few miles down the road it starts to cut out on me, sometimes dying completely... throwing it into neutral and pumping the gas usually will keep it running. This has gone on for a couple of months. When it does die, It normally will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Then a couple of weeks ago it died on me (normally this happens when slowing down and coming to a stop,) and would not restart even after a 1/2 hr, I had to have it towed. I periodically attempted to start it for over a week, it would turn over, but nothing more...then someone suggested that I disconnect the auto start box...It started right up. However, it still continues to cut out when slowing or stopping unless thrown into neutral and pumping the gas. It seems to run better on the open highway, than it does in town with all the slower speed and stop n go. I bought this car used about 6 mos. ago, and considering it's age and the 135K miles on it, I don't want to put any more money into it. I just read there is a recall on this vehicle for the fuel pump and additionally the fuel assembly, I'm not sure if this would be the answer to the whole problem or not.

I have a 1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville with 109k miles. I bought it new, and it's been without any major problems. Now there is a consistant engine shut down problem after driving or at idle for 7 minutes...

I have a similar issue with a 94 DeVille. Runs for a while then shuts down. Fuel pressure is good (I drove around with a pressure gauge attached and it still shut down with no drop in pressure). I've replaced the idle control and ignition module - no improvements.
I too have code P012 showing which to (potentially) the crank position sensor - which I can't seem to locate.
Any luck on your issue?

Won't re-start after stopping for gas/rest during road trip.

This problem sounds like you have a fuel pump over heating and shuts of the relay. When it cools off the relay kicks in and you can restart your vehicle. Replace your fuel pump and the problem will go away.

Fuel pump relay

If this happens every time you start your truck and it shuts off the same each time, you just might have a dirty fuel filter only allowing so much gas pass through until it clogs once again. I once had a chevy van, when I would drive it, would go a few miles and engine would shut down.   I would wait 10 or 15 minutes, it would start up and allow me to drive a few more miles then shut down again.  I changed the fuel filter, It was fine after that.
