I have I have an 87 Ford Ranger starts no problem runs great turn the corner it dies starts crapping out on me and then it don't start running again what would make that do that

It's a fuel or ignition spark related problem. You really need to check fuel pressure if this is throttle body fuel injection, and not a carburetor. TBI fuel pressure is not real high, about 15 psi, but if the pump is acting up or the fuel line is clogged, then it won't run good.

Or when it dies and won't restart, jump out and see if there is spark on a plug wire. The ignition system consists of an ignition coil, a sensor of crank position -probably a pick-up coil inside the distributor, and an ignition control module. Or on Fords, I think this is called the TFI module, the little rectangular box fitted to the outside of the distributor, with a lot of wires to it.
So there is some direction for you-gas or spark is not good. BTW, when was last tune-up?

What causes the spark controller to burn out?

Either engine computer (ecu) or ignition control module. It may have different names like power transistor unit, ICM, ECM etc. Power runs from engine computer to ignition module then that powers the coilpack/coils. Also check the ground connections as they corrode over time. If you replace any units make sure the make a great connection and use any heatsink paste required

Car died while stooped at light

if it won't run on starting fluid then you have a no spark issue. i'd check spark out of the coil to the distributor. you could have a bad ignition control module or coil

A 1991 accord -- the car was running (being driven) when the engine stopped running. There is power to the coil but no spark. I have replaced the distributor cap with a new one -- still no spark.

dizzy cap?? 91?? try changing the ignition module ,not sure where it is on this model it will be either under the coil or inside the distributor
