SOURCE: head gasket on my 1990 toyota V6 3.0

I would highly recommend that you go to the local parts store and purchase a Haynes Manual for your vehicle, they are around $ 25.00 Canadian. As when you do your head gasket you wil need to remove your timing belt and this is a procedure in it's self. then you will neen certain torque settings. This manual will provide you with all of this information step by step. they are designed for the do it yourselfer. They also cover many other issues that you may come across through out the ownership of your vehicle. I know that the last ting you need is an added exspence but these manuals are well worth the small investment. There is a site that you can find hrough google search that you can find factory service repair manuals for your vehicle, however they only have a layout for a 4 cylinder engine in there drawings and this is alot different then the 6 cylinder. As the procedure for repairs is totally different. I hope that this helps and that you take the time to rate any solutions you receive. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 1992 Toyota Previa van,Oil dripping onto exhaust manifold, replace head gasket? need a free manual!

The toyota previa uses a formed silicone gasket for the valve cover and the cover is held in place by metric shoulder bolts ( 10mm). The valve gasket leaks because you can't get enough preload on the bolts to re-seat the old gasket when it gets old and shrinks. The shoulder bolts only allow you to tighten the gasket enough to seat the shoulder on the bolt. If you continue to torque down the suspected bolts, you will snap the bolt off ( don't ask me how I know this ). You can either 1.)replace the old gasket with a new one or 2.) remove the existing bolts around the leak area and put in new metric bolts that do not have a shoulder. You may want to put in a small sleeve into the existing bolt hole but shorter than the thickness of the valve cover to account for the smaller diameter bolt. You can now torque down the bolt and get enough preload to seal the valve cover without removing the old gasket. Make sure you use a torque wrench ( in-lbs) or be very careful not to snap these small valve cover bolts.

Toyota avolon wont stop running when you turn the key off

This is known as 'dieseling'. The most common causes are

-idle speed set too high

-engine operating too hot (faulty thermostat, faulty temp sender, leaky head gasket)

engine timing is out (loose distributor clamp, worn timing belt, faulty timing belt tensioner)

Car wont start. rplaces head gasket, spark plus distributor cap.

Its possible that your timing is off since you removed the head and distributor cap, and probably the timing belt. The camshaft, crankshaft and distributor need to be aligned exactly right relative to each other for the timing to be correct. The engine will not start if everythings not aligned right.

Are you sure that you set the timing correctly after you reinstalled the cylinder head?

WHAT IS THE COST OF REPAIR ON A HEAD GASKET FOR A 2003 toyota 4runner v6 . it is not blown yet but every oil change i have to fill the coolant reservoir so every 3000 miles

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

More often than not, head gasket failures will result in an immediate overheat condition, and you will see billowing clouds of white smoke coming from the tailpipe.

To answer your question, the time to replace both head gaskets is about 10-12 hrs, at your local labour rate. My service department would charge 900 dollars labour. Then, figure about an additional 3-400 dollars in a gasket set, oil, filter, coolant and any machine-shop work that would be needed to true the cylinder head mating surfaces.

Before you do any of that...

Personally, I would suggest that you inspect the water pump on your vehicle. This is where you are most likely going to find you leak. 4Runner V-6s are known for the impeller shaft seal on the water pump to leak. To see/inspect the water pump, you will have to remove all of the plastic covers that are fitted to the front of the engine. Once they are all removed, you will see the water pump in the center of the cylinder block. If you see any evidence of pink or white crusty materials on or under the pump, you have found your problem...and, it is MUCH cheaper to change the pump, as opposed to doing the head gaskets.

I hope this helps you out.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.
