SOURCE: Key will not turn in the ignition 2003 Monte Carlo SS
Be sure its all the way in park or try neutral. Its possible that security system does not recognize the key. Is security light flashing or on steady? Shut all doors and windows, trunk, hood, turn off all accessory's,roll down drivers window, turn key off and remove for at least 1 minute, insert key into ignition, try to start leaving key to run position for 20 minutes, turn key to off, wait 15 seconds, try to start again leaving key to run, wait 20 minutes, turn key off, wait 15 seconds, try to start, This should relearn key code. It may relearn after 1 learn cycle and start if system is ok. Hope this helps and that the weather is dry and warm for this procedure!.. i think this may solve ur problem..
thank u rate me!!!

Well the tag is on the backside of the transmission closer to the firewall....I imagine one is the 4t65ehd which is the heavy duty and the other is the normal non supercharged version.. What a place for it huh lol

sometimes if the steering wheel is locked it won't come out of park try applying on the brakes and at the same time move the wheel back and forth and if this does not work and you have tilt it may be a problem in the steering column

Here's how to override the shift lock on a 2006 Monte Carlo. First, remove the top of the shift console by pulling up on the plastic piece directly in front of the hinged cover. This is the piece that has the cup holders molded into it and it is held in place by 4 clips (i.e. it will pop back into place with no tools).
Next, shine a flashlight down into the console to the right of where the shift lever passes through (passenger's side). You'll see a wiring clip with 4 or 5 wires going into it. Directly behind this clip you can see a metal shaft with a flared top that looks like a button. This is the shift lock override button. Reach in behind the wiring clip with your right hand and press this button in. With the engine running, hold the button in with your right hand, press on the brake, and shift out of park with your left hand.
Now you can drive the car to your mechanic (or to your own garage) to find out why the shift lock solenoid is not working. On mine it was obvious. A wire going into that clip near the override button came loose and there was no power to the shift lock solenoid. I removed the clip, reattached the wire, and replaced the clip. Problem solved, fixed for free!
