Can I down load the codes from my 2001 chevy astro?

Can anyone tell me if you can still down load the codes from a 2001 chevy astro w/o the code reader? You used to be able to short out the system and read the flashes. Then look at the codes that way to tell what was wrong.

Thanks. The van will not travel that far, but Auto Zone allows you to check out a code reader. That is what I did. Looks like a clogged fuel injector.

Code p0265

It could be one of two things. Either a loose/faulty speed sensor on one of the wheels or the ABS module itself. I would check/clean the connectors for the speed sensors first and if that doesnt work then head to a wrecking yard and grab a "new" ABS module.

Changing a cap and rotor on 2001 Chevy Astro

pull off the center console inside the van to expose the engine. the distributor will be right in front of you. remove 2 screws from the cap, and make sure you get the wires on in the exact order you remove them, or else it wont start. rotor is underneath cap, and i believe the coil is right there on the cap.

Code Reader reads Shifter Solenoid Stuck or Off

The Shift solenoids are located in the transmission oil pan. I would recommend replacing both shift solenoids while you're in there. Also replace the filter and pan gasket. The shift solenoids are located towards the rear of the valvebody and will be identical to each other. They are held in place by a retaining clip which is easily removed with a small screwdriver or similar tool. Care must be taken as parts may fly out of the bore when the solenoids are removed. Hope this helps.
