Could be that the camshaft position sensor could be defective, or the camshaft synchronizer (the part that took the place of the distributor on DIS engines) is failing, or if you have recently had the camshaft synchronizer replaced it could be out of time....

SOURCE: 1999 ford windstar has a misfire code

Look at the coil pack, these are known to develop cracks, usually on the underside in the resin, you have to remove it to tell. It is much easier to reomve with the wiper cowl removed.
