Electrical stops when trying to start truck

Happened twice; while trying to start vehicle, the power goes off. The battery is good. I then jumped it with a portable unit and it started right up. The second time was about 1 month afterwards with the same results. I was leaving a store when the power just died as I turned the key.

Have a load test done on the battery as you have a failing cell in the battery.

It sounds to me as though you may have an alternator concern and when it is running all it using is the battery and will die when the battery runs down.I would charge the battery up and start the truck then using a digital volt meter and take a voltage reading at the battery with the lights on and the engine running it should read between 13.1 volts and 15 volts if it doesnt you probably need an alternator.
Let me know

SOURCE: Won t start after sitting for two weeks

check the starter, starter motor and the starter are one unit. just under nearth the battery. make sure the red battery wire is tight. and the black ground is tight to the chassis.
if you don't hear any clicking sound, the starter is bad, need replacement.
if you hear clicking sound then look for the starter module. mounted on the side of the distributor.
these are two most problem area.
if it still don't start, go to zcar.com or 300xcar.com
they should able to give you most place to look.

good luck

My power pack has no power at the leads to jump start my vehicle

are you connecting the power pack correctly. When jump starting the red power lead goes on the positive battery terminal (+ to + ) and the black lead goes on the engine (- to -) not the battery as this stops a power surge that can destroy the ECM. Blowing fuses indicates that you may be connecting black to red and this amounts to a dead short which will blow fuses.

3-yr old battery went dead in my 2002 chevy S10 pickup

Yes, it sounds like your alternator is short circuited internally. Replace alternator with high quality rebuilt unit
how does the alternater works
Alternator and Charging System A battery is needed to power the operating system of your car. Once the vehicle is running the battery is charged by the alternator which is driven by the engine. While in operation the alternator creates electricity, about 13.6 to 14.3 volts, and recharges the battery to its original state of charge. The alternator is one of the hardest working electrical components in your vehicle. When your vehicle is running the alternator is busy creating electricity to provide the engine and the car accessories with needed power. When the car is not running and your battery is severely discharged some electrical components may still operate or operate poorly. Typically, these components are designed to operate properly at 12 volts; if the system voltage is low it can cause erratic symptoms.
to check out how the alternater looks .
When jump started a severely discharged battery can cause the alternator to overload and internally fail. If this occurs replace the battery before replacing the alternator. This will help prevent a second alternator failure. Most vehicles use a multi-ribbed belt connected to the engine to rotate the armature inside the alternator. If the belt fails it should be replaced immediately. Belt tension should be taught. If it isn't, check the belt tensioner. It may need to be replaced or the incorrect size belt may have been installed. Either of these conditions can cause the vehicle to stall and not restart.

Car has no electrical power. Battery can not be jumped

If your car has no power at all there are a few things that come to mind. First it may be your battery. If a battery is bad enough it will not take any kind of charge therefore trying to jump it will do you no good. The only solution for that is to change the battery. The second thing it could be is your cars ignition switch. If the ignition switch is bad it will not allow power to anything else in the car because all electrical power must go through the ignition switch before it goes anywhere else in the car. That is why if you have a bad switch you can not get power anywhere else. The third thing that it could be is your vehicles ECM. The ECM is your vehicles on board computer and if that is bad it can and will also cause this kind of problem. I hope this helps you out.

Turn signals stopped working now no power

I concur this is a power supply fault of some sort, insure your battery connections are maintained, meaning clean and good of contact, obtain a voltmeter and test the voltage at the battery contacts it should be about 12.5 or higher, turn the key on and try to start, noting the voltage, if it drops below 11 volts, there's your fault if not a poor ground from the battery and the frame of your vehicle may be faulty but boosting your vehicle from another sports battery fault

How do you check if altenator is charging battery,

Most vehicles if you get the car running and unhook the positive battery cable it will stay running that is because it is running off the alternator. if it dies like your talking about I would most definitely say your alternator needs to be replaced. Most likely when you jumped your father in laws pick up there was a bad ground somewhere and your alternator got a surge of electricity and it fried it. Hope this helps.

Lost all electrical car died wont start

Will it start when you give it a jump or install a good battery? If it does the problem is your alternator. What most likely happened is the alternator quit working while you were driving and the car was relying on the battery directly to keep it going in which the battery completely lost power and shut the car off.
