Saturn 06 clanking noises under car-check what at repair shop?

I have been hearing a slight metallic clank when I drive on uneven pavement-was told it was a steering column defect-1 day later started again but worse-now it's a clank and ching and a clank-took back-now it was a rivet to my heat shield-riveted back on-drove off-a few hours later-back again and worse now-more noise-seems like it may be hitting something? I need to bring it to Saturn as I have a warranty still-what should I ask them to check? Bushnells? Shocks? I am now leaving it until it is fixed-Help!!

Take the car to the nearest tire shop and have the front end tech take a look at the problem is the best advice I can offer as noise issues are very hard to hear over the keyboard of my computer. Sorry.

Was told by vw dealership I need a cv boot on 2007 jetta or could result in much more expensive repair later. Was told by 2 other auto repair shops that I should replace entire axil because cost to...

The repair shops are correct in the fact of it being more costly to replace just the boot. It's not that urgent to replace the axle if the boot just ripped. If you do start hearing popping and clanking sounds while turning corners, then it's time to change that axle since it will start making noises when it's worn.

Loud clanking noise in gear if the clutch is not engaged

Almost sounds like a throwout bearing problem. Either way, bring the car back and make them fix it. It will be covered under the warranty so dont let them try to convince you otherwise.
