Kia sportage wont start

Usually a bell sounds when the key is put into ignition. Occasionally it will start then stop however still does not crank as is completely dead. Battery is good and all fuses are good. This is an electrical issue or short I believe but don't know where to start, any ideas what the first step should be?

Start with the ignition switch. Work from there.

SOURCE: 99 kia sportage starter

if knocking on the starter makes it work everytime then it might need a shim installed between the starter and the block to hold it in a slightly different position to keep the drive gear from wedging into the flywheel

SOURCE: 1999 Kia Sportage: Issue with car starting

You may need a starter. My 99 Kia would get me places and would refuse to start. Someone hit the starter with a wrench and it started right up. I had to hit the starter to get my Kia to start until I replaced it.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2002 kia sportage electric windows

Hi i had the same problem with my windows in my kia.Im going to give you some simple things to do.First open you driver side door.On the inside of the door(WHERE THE DOOR ARM IS) its a thick like rubber stuff covering the wires.Cut the rubber stuff off and pull the wires from the carside not the door until tHe main plug come out(ITS TWO)(ONE FOR LOCKS AND ONE FOR WINDOWS).Take both loose one at a time and blow in them.I figure that out with mines that a bunch of dust and stuff got into the plug and short it out.And make sure when youre done use black tape to cover the wires back to protect it from doing it again.Hope this helps

Vehicle not starting

are you getting lights and ignition display. when you turn ignition do you hear a clicking sound ? there is a ignition control relay/ computer this will stop engine from running and will stop the ecu from being read. it is fitted under the dash usually behind the steering console. check this first before changing the ecu.

I was driving my 99 kia sportrage and all of a suddenthe kia just stopped and all the lights turned on now it sounds like it wants to start but wont i have people say its not getting any gas we put it on...

The OBD test cannot detect a failed fuel pump. See if you can hear the pump operate by listening near the tank while someone switches the ignition to "On" (not start).

2000 kia sportage engine wont start when hot it cranks and when it bucks the starter it will start

sounds **** it jumped timing bad belt dont start it cause you run the risk of smashing a valve while it is out of time this is my thought
  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  3. Turn off all electrical loads.
  4. Connect a tachometer and verify idle speed is between 750-850 RPM.
  5. Connect a timing light to number one cylinder.
  6. Verify the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the timing mark on the timing belt cover are aligned at 4°BTDC.
