Transmission problem 98 dodge dakota

I just bought a 98 dodge dakot 128,000 miles on it. Has the the 5.1 engine and 4 speed auto tranny. I noticed last night when I was driving it that when it was shifting between 2nd and 3rd that I would have to back off on the accelerator in order for it to shift or it just stayed in second. The other thing I noticed was that when I go to shift from park to drive or reverse that it seems like it takes a little more pulling on the shifter than what seems normal. Any info would be helpful thankyou.

2.4 liter Automatic 104k miles. Clicking noise when shifting into reverse or drive. Clicking is a fast clicking noise which lasts about 3-4 seconds. The AT fluid is at normal level at idle and in park. The fluid is clean and no burnt smell. Outside of the fast clicking which just started recently it shifts okay and runs okay. It doesn't seem to be coming from the engine it runs very nicely.

Just try changing your transmission fluid and filter first, and its not a 5.1 its a 5.2 unless you have the 5.9 r/t then it would be a 5.9. i would change fluid and filter first and go from there... and as far as the extra effort it takes to shift from park, try using the parking brake when you park, set the brake before you put it in park and take your foot off the brake pedal, that stops the truck from resting on the transmission park gear and should solve that particular problem.

98 corolla, how do I swap my automatic transmission to a five speed tranny? and what parts will i need?

This is a heavy job. This must be done in a service center. The entire automatic transmission assembly
will be taken off from the engine.before the other standard 5 speed transmission can be installed. The
car will be lifted up to dismount the old one. This also need a mobile lift to hold the dismounted auto transmission and bring it down The mobile lift will also bring the 5 speed tranny up and mounted to the
engine, and the propeller shaft. But you must have the compatible 5 speed tranny first.

Changing from 98 2.5 man.tranny,to 01 3.9

WOW. You want to put a 3.9 ltr V6 from a 2001 Dakota into a 1998 Dakota with a 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder? And you want to keep the manual trans? Have you considered what you will be using for a fuel and engine managment system? If you have a wrecked truck as a host vehicle then the changover may work. But it will take patience and a lot of work. I don't think the 4 cylinder trans will bolt up but I am not sure - never tried that. However that light duty trans will probably not handle the torque for very long even if it did bolt up. Your local Auto Salvage Yard will have a changeover guide and be able to tell you if that trans will fit either engine. My recommendation is to swap everthing and change that 98 to a 01, auto trans and everything.
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes?
