Radio turns off in starting position

My radio usually turns off whenever the key is turned in the start position, I have to manually turn it on again, then reprogram the stations. This does not happen switching the ignition on or off, only in the starting position. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for your input, The car cranks up OK but will have the battery tested as it is over 4 yrs old. Solution #2 the wires have never been moved, Solution #3 The radio is original. I did try to select a station, turn the ignition on,waited then switched on again, and it maintained the selected stations. So quite likely I will have the battery tested as this maybe the problem. Much appreciated, will keep you informed.

This look like a low battery and every time you try to crank your car it takes more power and kill the main power to the radio
solution # 2 the radio as 2 power wires one is always hot ( with current) and the other is connected to the ignition switch if you have replaced the radio those 2 wires maybe are connected backwards the one that goes to the switch is probably connected directly to the battery and the one is suppose to be always hot is probably connected to the switch if you have the original radio have your battery tested and if is ok then try get a haynes book at any auto parts for you car and try to follow the wire that is always hot normally is a yellow or orange wire
solution #3 this apply only if you car still have the original radio
turn your ignition switch to the on position but don't crank your car and turn your radio on select a radio station then turn your ignition key off and wait 3 minutes then turn your ignition switch on again with out cranking your car and the radio should be in the same radio station you select if this test pass then chances are is your battery getting low and if this test fail then the hot wire has a blow fuse look for the fuse inside the hook let me know what happend and good luck

2007 Audi Q2 Quattro won't start after re-connecting the battery?

Please give this a go..Start with a throttle body adaptation. Needs to be done whenever the battery is reconnected after being disconnected. Turn the key to the ACC/ON position (without starting the engine) and wait about 3 to 4 minutes. You should hear some humming/clicking noises. After 3 to 4 min try to start it, should go. just needed the TB adaptation to cycle. with out a working TB no start, nada nothing.
Hope this helps

My key is stuck in the ignition.

Your car has several different ignition positions. They each offer slightly different functionality.
Off: In this position, the engine is off, and so are your electronic accessories (unless the delay has not expired yet). You can still turn on lights (headlights, interior lights, etc.).
ACC: This is the accessory position. Turn the key to ACC if you want to listen to the radio, play a CD or use other accessories without cranking the engine.
On: In this position, all of the electronics should come on. This is also the position that the key will return to after cranking the engine.
Start: Turn the key to this position to crank the engine. Let go of the key when the engine is running and the key will return to the on position.

I use to own a car that had an ignition that was ACC - OFF - ON - START.

Try turning your ignition one position clockwise and see if the radio turns off and the key comes out.

Code for the radio

Here you go - hope this helps -

- Turn your radio off.
- Turn key to the ON position. Do not start, just leave ignition in ON position.
- Press and hold the numbers 1 and 6 on your radio with one hand.
- Using your other hand, turn the radio on while keeping 1 and 6 pressed.
- Ten characters will appear on the screen, usually alphanumeric. Write down all the numbers you see.
- Email [email protected] with Proof of ownership and the radio serial numbers.

Turn Key and Loses Power

Hello,

When a vehicle goes completely dead if a large drain is placed on the electrical system, such as starting it, the problem usually lies either at the battery connections or where the cables connect to the vehicle. Slamming the door repeatedly is probably just jarring the loose connection back and forth. Start with this, usually the fix to a big problem is smaller than you think.

My jeep would not start or even turn over but radio, lights all work

Any clicking noises? My first thought is lithe starter has failed. Typically if all the other accessories are working and the starter doesn't when you turn the key it's likely the starter. Usually an a single click is heard everytime you turn the key to the start position. If you heard a series of rapid clicks when you try to start you likely have a weak battery. A jump start may get you going.

Ignition switch has no resistance when i turn to start it just stays in any position with the key in it could this kill my battery

Possibly yes. You need to replace that switch. The following can happen if you don't. You can damage the starter motor, or run down the battery if you leave it in the wrong position.
Here is what you should do for the very moment. When you start the car manually return the switch when the starter starts the car. Try to mimic the motion the key would take if the parts were working correctly. It you turn the key to the position that you can remove it from, do that when you leave the car. if it comes out in any position, the lock has been damaged. To test shutting it off completely,
turn on the radio and when the key is in the right position to remove, the radio will go off.
An Added precaution would be to disconnect one of the battery terminals when you leave the car.
I recommend it ,

Good Luck,
Mark

My tundra wont start but all the lights and radio

That might be a possibility. Asssuming when you say it wont start you mean it won't crank over. First check battery voltage at the battery with a dvm when you turn the key to the start position. Then check the voltage at the starter when you turn the key to the start position. If both readings are the same and you must have a reading of at least 12dcv. Try turning the ignition key to the on position( not the start) and jump the positive voltage from the starter to the solenoid terminal. The starter should crank over if the proper voltage is present. If the starter just clicks or just attemps to start. yes, you need to replace your starter
