2000 geo metro/ suziki swift 1.3l 16valve is very hard to start after engine is hot. For example I stop at a gas station turn off the car when I try to start it after the 10-15 cranks it finally starts. Cold start no problem. And sometimes after it is hot when put in reverse it will die. Fuel pump? oh auto tranny and new battery/starter

Does the engine crank? Do the instrument panel lights dim when you attempt to start it?
If the answer to both of those is no, then you may have the same problem I have had on occasion - the "clutch safety switch" may be stuck and locks out the starter.
If it cranks ok and it has spark, there is a possibility that the fuel injector is "stuck". It happened to me once with my '92. The problem was solved by accident when I used a multimeter to check the voltage across the injector. I watched the voltage drain down to 0 and then I was able to start it and it worked just fine.

You might want to see if the timing belt might have jumped. If you getting gas and spark it should of fired.Try this Hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank on it for a few.By doing this you shut off fuel flow to motor and it tries to burn what has been injected.Don't let off of the pedal or make sure to press down before cranking.Maybe it flooded it self by cranking slow..If car still does not start after cranking the motor over a few times spay some starting fluid into the intake or throttle body and try to start. If fires and misses back fires has a slow pedal response its more than likely the timing belt....

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

you appear to have a miss adjusted gear shifter. Reverse probably appears in the park position. If that's the case it's easy to fix; the adjuster is on top of the transaxle casing. the shifter cable will be the biggest one. Hope this helps!
