1992 GMC Jimmy idles rfast

My 1992 Jimmy Idles fast at startup and stays fast despite any driving that I do. How do I fix this?

    ok, ill do that. is there a way I can just adjust the idle down? like on the throttle body? I know some about cars, but am no expert. :) thanks for the help!

If this is a throttle body motor which probably is check for vacuum leak were the throttle body bolts on to the intake .the gaskets go bad after awhile .or listen to here a hissing sound try to locate and you might find a vacuum leak there.

    if you try to adjust the idle it will start to surge on you so i would not do this.

No, it is computer controlled. You have an issue that is causing this, and will need a live data scanner hooked up to diagnose. You could have a Mass air flow sensor issue, throttle position sensor, or even an air leak at the intake.

My 1995 gmc jimmy idles high, I have changed all the vacuum lines, the air idle control valve, the EGR valve and throttle position sensor. The warmer it gets, the higher it idles and I'm out of ideas
Have you checked for vacuum leaks around the throttle body or intake manifold? If not try that.

I got a 1994 gmc s15 jimmy with the vortec 4.3 it idles rough but whaen i drive it give it gas it runs great what would cause that.
sounds like it could be a problem in the IAC circuit. The Idle Air Control valve manages how much air gets into the engine while @ idle. It receives commands from the ECM based on inputs from at least the mass air flow, coolant temp, throttle position and oxygen sensors
