Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a 2008 shanghai shenke, 250cc, and recently I prepared to leave for work and absolutely nothing happened. I believe it may be the battery or the starter. The problem is I don't know where most of these parts are even located on the beast. A simple explanation would be amazingly helpful!. I have the charger cable for the battery but I just need to know.... where exactly does this thing go to.

Check both fuse boxes again. You have a blown fuse somewhere and it most likely is one on the main fuses in the underhood fusebox.

I don't know if you fixed your problem yet but the fusible links will be near the altenator. They are should be black in color and an inch or so long. They will be on the positive lead(s). Have you tried starting the car by jumping solenoid on the starter to see if the starter even attempts to engage?

SOURCE: My car will not start.

Hi before you take the dashboard out check the following (if it is the starter relay they are usually
on the fuse board which will be behind a panel on the lower part of the dash or a separate fuse box
in the engine bay)
To find out if it is the starter or the starter electrical try this procedure.
Make sure the key is OFF then go to the starter ( i think its not to bad to get at )
On the starter there is a big terminal ( +cable from the battery always live )
and a small terminal which is the small wire which becomes live when you turn the key
To find out if the starter is ok simply put a screwdriver across these two terminals mommentarily
With the transmission in neautral or park if auto box
If the engine turns over then you know the starter is ok and the problem is the supply from key swicth to starter which could include a relay
Also if the car is auto box then there will be a swich on it which could be faulty
I hope i have been able to help you with this problem John ( South Wales UK )

Huh??? You are using the dome lamp to measure the output of the alternator on an engine that won't even start??? I would like to see how that trick works! YOUR BATTERY IS LOW- plain and simple! The REASON your battery is low is a whole other problem that needs to be figured out. It could be that the battery itself is bad and will not accept a charge, or it could be that your charging system has a problem and cannot properly charge the battery (alternator, cables, connections, voltage regulator, etc.).

Please note that the light is telling you battery SYSTEM failure. This means that the battery and its supporting system (A.K.A. Charging System) needs to be tested/diagnosed. Nobody online can tell you exactly what the CAUSE of the problem is without TESTING the battery and charging system.

Please also note that the vehicle we are talking about is equipped with a PassKey III (PK3) security system. If you keep fooling around with it while there is low battery voltage, the system can lock out the starter and fuel system where you will have to reprogram your computer to get it started.

How to replace the stater motor 2008 528 i

The very first thing you absolutely must do is disconnect the positive battery cable and wrap it with an old sock or something similar. I have had them creep back onto the battery while I was working and it's quite a surprise, believe this. Remove the electrical wire from the starter first, then the mounting bolts, not, the other way around. It is a Chinese puzzle to get it out but you will figure it out. Good luck, Dana.

I replaced my 1997 Jimmy ignition and when I turn the key, nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Go out to the battery, loosen it up, run some sandpaper to get the terminals nice and shiny, on both the battery and the wire connectors, and then tighten them up very well. If that doesn't work, pull the battery out again and get it charged up.

Intermittent starts, battery good, altenator good. Car works fine for two weeks then next morning no start, then 2 days later, starts up fine. No other electrical malfunctions at all...when turning key on...

ecu is taking up more voltage as a back up reserved. Try removing the battery once it is loaded in the evening and put it back in the morning and try to start.Trial and observation will pin point the main cause.

My 2008 Corolla the (Maint reqd light) on and I fill power steering fluid, brake fluid and change oil before it should be change but the maint reqd light still on and I don't know what else to check.

You usually need to have the vehicle taken to the dealership so they can perforn the required maintenence. The light being on doesnt mean that there is a problem with anything, it means that the computer knows how many miles are on the car in relation to the manufacturers maintenence schedule. If you absolutely believe you have fixed the problem you can attempt to turn the light off by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10-15 minutes so the capasitors can discharge. If the computer determines that the maintenence item is not taken care of it will turn the light back on and you will need to take it to Toyota. I hope this helps you, if so would you please mark as solved and leave a rating?

Thank you!

Car won't start

if nothing is happening at all then it is definately the battery because as long as the battery has power you will hear a click and the dash light would still come one so if there is absolutely nothing happening it is the battery if you take it to most auto parts store even wal-mart they will test it for free
