It's very likely they will bend. Only way to tell for sure is to take apart the engine and check.

SOURCE: Timing belt replacement for a 1999 Audi A4(elective)

Well, the labor on this specific Audi will be 5.5 hrs+ parts. the labor depends on the shop. every shop is different. lets say you brought it to my labor charge is 50 dollars an hour so, that will be a $275.00 labor charge added to the part cost which would be $220.44 for the timing belt and tensioner combined. this brings you to a total of $495.44 for the total repair. Keep in mind, this figure was calculated on the basis of a 50 dollar an hour labor charge. it can flucuate ethier way, depending on what shop you take this vihical to. I must say that, its better to replace it before it breaks and, it is a good rule of thumb to replace the water pump as well at the same time as this repair.

Please rate and have a great day:)

If time belt breaks does it hurt the valves on

Yes, it bends them. The valves stay still, some will be in the open (down position) and the piston comes up and bashes them.

If the timing belt is easy to replace, you can try it. If not, you might as well remove the head and check, clean the combustion chambers, clean and lap the valves whilst you have it stripped down. Get yourself a workshop manual.

When do I replace timing belt on 2008 Audi A4 (2.0) ? Dealer says 75,000 miles Manual says 110,000 miles current milage is 74,400 Thanks for your guidance. Paul Worley

The manual states the maximum, I always try to replace them around 90 thousand
miles. On some engines, the valves and pistons are an interference setup and if the
timing belt jumps time or breaks ,then the cylinders strike the valves ,requiring
remanufacturing of the head.

If you break a timing belt on a 1998 hyundai excel 1.5 Dohc will it spin free or will the pistons contact the valves?

Both. When it normally runs valves come very close to pistons. If belt breaks, any open valves will have come in contact with pistons and usually bend or break, but engine will free spin.

If your timing belt slips (most likely broke) yes it can break/bend valves. You won't be able to determine extent of damage until to tear it apart. When belt breaks, yes they they "free spin"

Dear, sir my AUDI A4 T1.8 S line was the time bealt cut once i was drive it on low speed about 30 to 40km now i feel worry about my car engine is it ok ? do i need just to chang the Timing Belt only ?

Hi Sam,
The 1.8 Audi engine is referred as "interference" style engine. The timing belt breaks, then the pistons and the valves can "interfere" with each other. Actually hitting each other. Possibly bending valves and or cracking pistons. So--------
Some money will need to be spent to find out if further damage other than the timing belt replacement.
This process can get real expensive.
Check around carefully and ask a lot of questions before proceeding.
You could spend many, many, hundreds of U.S. dollars with no results if you are not careful.

Cambelt sliped or broken. does the valves bend.

what is the liter size of your engine? the 1.8L is an interference engine. generally all Audi engines are interference engines, and timing belt breakage can bend valves, the sure way to determine without detailed maintenance information, install a new belt, once the belt is on immediately run a compression test, if timing marks are good and compression fails, valves are bent.
