Chevrolet 3.1 water pump impeller housing

When obtaining a water pump for the 1998 Chevrolet 3.1 V6 engine, the only stationary part of the replacement pump is the front cover plate which along with the moving parts is bolted to the existing impeller housing. Problem: Coolant is leaking from a pin hole in the engine side of the housing. I believe that tomorrow's inspection is likely to reveal that the pin hole is from corrosion through the housing. Have any of you been successful sealing such a leak with an adhesive? Of course it would be better to replace the housing, but that will have to wait. I am also thinking of drilling through the pinhole and plugging the larger hole with a clamping type fastener (such as a tight-fitting bolt with nut and washers) and some sealant. Think field repair/pit stop vs shop repair. Suggestions from those who approve will be appreciated. If you have repaired such a leak in a similar manner before, please share with me what worked for you. Thanks.

Changed water pump took out thermostat still overheating

How about more info.
The water pump is almost NEVER the issue unless it.
1) Leaks and leads to loss of coolant
2) The impeller has broken off
3) Someone has installed the wrong pump.

When does it happen, how quickly,is the radiator fan working, are the radiator external surfaces clean and is airflow unobstructed. Is the coolant a proper 50/50 mix. When starting with a cold engine and the radiator cap off are there bubbles in coolant. Did this happen suddenly or over time.

How to replace a thermostat on a1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.1 v6

you may be able to take off the water housing by taking the front bolt out and loosening the rear, but its TOUGH to get too. A repair shop can do it for you. I replace them if I have the intake manifold off for any reason. check if intake gaskets are leaking,(common), then you need them replaced and the thermostat is easy to replace at that time.

Why does my s-10 get hot with a new radiator and therostat|?

Odds are that you need a new water pump,if the impellers have degraded over time(they are made of cast iron and are now 12 years old) then the will not pump the volume of coolant that you need to properly cool your engine.

External coolant leak

Most likely the water pump seep hole, if it was running outthe crank It would not run, however it could be the upper radiator hose or the small bypass hose or the thermsotat housing.
