Question about Mercury Sable
I have a 2003 Mercury Sable LS. The fuel pump and filter were replaced in January of this year just before I bought the car. Today after parking at my office the car started sputtering and stalled. The gas gauge read just over 1/4 tank. I had it towed to a shop and they checked it and said the fuel pump is brand new and working fine, but the fuel pump float was bad and that the only way to fix the float is to replace the fuel pump. Is there any way to fix or replace the fuel pump float Without replacing the fuel pump?
Depends on how the manufacturer does it. Shouldn't be to expensive though.

I was looking under the hood, and noticed that i could hear air rushing around. I found that a vacum hose had decayed and cracked. After i replaced that, everything has been fine

it is in the gas tank you have to drop the tank and it goes down in the top although i would locate the filter on the frame rail first and replace it its cheaper and i reccomend you replace it anyway with a pump change
