There is a set screw in it,just remove it,if it does not come off, then use finger polish remover,or acid tone,to remove the glue,it is not supposed to have glue holding it to the mirror ,but some may have got in there,if this was helpful, please rate, and thank you.

I cant remove the rearview mirror button to fix it. There is some sort of a clip holding that piece in the rear view mirror and in order to re attach the mirror to the windshield you have to get that piece...

Hi Teresa,

Yes, you are correct. The mirror bracket (the small piece - see picture below) has to come out of the mirror stem in order to get the thing glued back on to the windshield.

MOST GM vehicles have either a Hex or Torx head screw that holds onto the bracket. (see picture below)

If your mirror does not have this screw, then it is held by a spring clip (which is what I think you are describing). If this is the case, look at the bottom edge of the mirror stem/bracket assembly. There will be a small hole (slot) between the mirror stem and the mirror bracket. Take a paper clip and shove it as far as possible up in the hole. This will push and hold the spring clip back so you can slide the bracket out of the mirror stem. Please note that you are only trying to get the paper clip BETWEEN the spring clip and the bracket - the spring clip does not come out of the mirror stem assembly without breaking things. (Sorry, I do not have a picture of this type of fixture)

When you go to glue the bracket onto the windshield, make sure that all of the old glue is cleaned off first. A razor blade works well for this task. Then follow the directions in your mirror glue kit for applying the primer and glue.

Make sure the bracket is oriented correctly when you stick it to the windshield. Some mirror glues are very unforgiving and will stick almost instantly, making corrections nearly impossible.

One more hint: If the old glue (or the outline of the old glue) is still on the windshield, use a "sharpie" pen to trace around it on the OUTSIDE of the windshield. This will serve as a "locator" once you have cleaned and primed the windshield in preparation for the bracket to get glued. The pen mark can be cleaned off with regular windshield washer fluid when you are finished.

How to replace a interior rear view mirror?

if it came unglued from glass which is what it sounds like, any auto parts store should have a special package of "rear view mirror glue or cement" it is on the shelf. it should come with the all important cleaning solution or wipe, but before you clean (scrape with razor blade scraper, glass and bracket )off old glue, mark the position of mirror, do this on inside or outside of glass with tape or a marker. the mirror has a bracket its mounted to, look closely for a set screw and remove bracket, it might be a tiny slotted screw or hex head (allen head ) note position of bracket in relation to mirror because your going to glue the bracket only to the glass at first and when the bracket is upright the mirror will slide down on to bracket, then tighten the set screw! be sure to follow instructions EXACTLY on package of glue. would be a good idea to get two packs, just in case first try goes awry. its cheap!

How to glue 97 monte rear view mirrow back on windshield, no screw to get the little metal hanger off rest of mirror,

The only thing holding the bracket on is a screw. If the mirror were on the windshield, look up from under it, there will be a hole. Inside is a set screw, it requires a small allen wrench. Instructions come with the glue for attatching it. You can purchase the glue kit at any auto parts store. Before you clean the area, take a felt marker and mark a larger than the bracket " + " where the old one was on the outside of the windshield so you can center the bracket.

How do i get the rear view mirror back on?

I am assuming you are talking about the interior rear view mirror and not the side rear view mirror. Most auto parts stores sell an adhesive glue to fix the interior rear view mirror. Most of these mirrors have two parts to them. One part is the bracket that glues to the windshield and the other part is the rear view mirror assembly. Before gluing the bracket to the glass check and see how the mirror assembly attaches to the bracket. There will often be a screw that fixed the two together.

The inside rear view mirror fell off I need to re=attach it

The button is locked into the mirror shoe by a flat spring. Find the notch at the bottom of the shoe and insert a small flat screwdriver to push the spring away from the button. Some force may be required.
