Question about Mitsubishi Diamante

Engine shut down while driving

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante. I had the oil change and the car was running fine. Then it just shut off. When my husband looked at it he noticed they didnt tighten the oil filter tight enough and the oil leaked out. Is the engine a goner or can we save it.

You need to have the engine control computer scanned for fault codes, it is the first step to diagnose the problem.

SOURCE: changed oil, filter came off while driving, didnt run hot but stopped and wont start again

does it turn over at all? Or does starter just click? Oil may have dripped on wiring or in solenoid. If starter and motor turn over fine but won't start than I don't think the problem is related and it is just a coincidence. If you have lost all of your oil while driving, than it means your motor is seized and you will have to put in more oil and use a prybar and socket and turn the motor over manually by crankshaft pulley to break the piston loose

SOURCE: when in drive the neutral indicator light flashes

Check your ATF cooling system. Your transmission fluid is overheating. This might be after a hard drive. The fluid might need to be replaced too.

SOURCE: my oil filter is leaking and it is tight

If anyone else has this problem, I'm betting its your oil filter adapter gasket. Of course check to see if the problem is just a bad oil filter seal but mine was not. The oil filter adapter is like 10 - $15 at Auto Zone or Napa. If you feel you can't do the job yourself then take it to the auto repair shop. It's only four bolts and change out the gasket but you must drain the coolant cause the water run through the same housing and it's kind of a pain to get to on the vehicle. Napa gasket p/n is 70801

Where is transmission filter located in 2001 mitsubishi diamante located and how do i change it?

transmission filter in the bottom of transmission bolted to valve body.you need a large drain pan.place drain plug under transmission oil pan.remove transmission oil pan drain plug.let all transmission fluid drain out then screw back drain plug in oil pan.then you need to remove transmission oil pan then remove filter and replace pan gasket also.make sure you have right amount transmission fluid on hand.buy extra because if you short of fluid you cant drive car if fluid level too low.make sure you get the right amount fluid.torque pan bolts to 96 inch pounds.

1995 Mitsubishi Diamante is overheating. Oil pressure light came on - oil was low 2 quarts. Added oil, drove down the street, temp gauge went to Hot. Let car cool down. Drove home, check engine light came...

something is strange here thats for sure ,firstly take thermostat out and put it in a saucepan of water and boil it to see if opens .,check the oil light switch and pull the rubber boot cover back to see if any oil is behind it ??.-You are buying trouble with a car with such a high mileage on it ,never buy anything with more than 50,000 miles or you are just buying someones rubbish

its an easy fix get a new gasket ready and remove old one. before you put in the new one clean both surfaces on cover and head and put a smear of silicone sealer on both sides of gasket and carefully put together and make sure sealent doesnt go into engine tighten all the bolts evenly working in opposites and leave to let sealer set this will cure any leaks

The torque converter on the gearbox has gone, this is what converters the power from the engine to the gearbox, not cheap!!!

When engine is cold neutral and drive light keeps blinking

Go and have the battery tested. The first post is correct but a low battery voltage (caused when cold) will definately contribute to problems with the transmission and if you miss even a few shifts with the F4A51 transmission, you will break the wave spring.

'02 Diamante oil light and clicking noise

Here goes:
Please do not drive the car.
Have the car towed to a well-recommended garage
Have someone unscrew the oil pressure light or gauge sending unit in the engine block and screw is a oil pressure guage ( hand held, used in garages).
Test that pressure carefully at all speeds.
Either you have: a bad oil pump, a plugged oil filter, a clogged oil passageway, or a bad engine.
The ticking sound might be valve lifters that are not receiving oil.
God bless your efforts.

Transmission changes slowly

When it was cold weather the oil is thicker and definitely here the transmission needs a good flush. Be careful to use the genuine Mitsubishi transmission oil as it was designed for it.
Cheers
