Question about 2001 Buick LeSabre
3800 Engine. No pre-warning signs of when it will do it & doesn't happen when at the mechanics. Shuts off like the key was turned off. Usually always starts right back up. Fuel pressure seems fine. We changed wither the camshaft or crankshaft sensor (whichever didn't require major tearing into to get to it). This car is too smart for it's own good. Help!
I'm going to assume you have checked the computer for trouble codes and found none.
This is one of the most difficult problems to fix, because you can not duplicate it on demand. Like at the repair shop.
You would need to know which component is failing when it stops running, and until it gets to the point where it won't start, finding which component is next to impossible. It could be a relay, the ignition module, the computer, or a long list of other things.

SOURCE: will start then dies
On the regals they have a ceramic resistor on the passanger side under the fender. It heats up and over time it tends to brake and the wire inside tends to rust away. The fuel pumps run in 2 different speeds. Had the same problem. Dealer only part yet the car would run and you would think it was the fuel pump. Turn the key it kicks on then start and dies out. Ceramic on the pass side would need replaced. It is white about 2-3 inches long or so held on with 2 bolts i do believe. Ill find a bulliten i found online to help me diagnos the problem. :) hopefully this helps someone out instead of spendin $$$ that ya cant afford with the recession eh?

It NEVER was the camshaft sensor! Unless, you've removed the engine lately, which I doubt.
RUN to Advance Auto Parts and buy a can of "SeaFoam" and add to your gas tank per instructions...drive at least 100 miles and the problem should go away...IF it doesn't you'll have to replace the O2 sensors in the exhaust system...Any good mechanic should be able to do this for much less $$ than the dealership DO NOT go to the dealer for repairs!

SOURCE: 98 Buick Regal -engine quits
ok its one of two things you need to check when it cuts off if you have spark or fuel if you lose fuel pressure replace pump it gets hot and makes noise like its running but its not pumping fuel and if you lose spark you need to replace ignition control module has a hair line crack in it and when gets hot the crack expands and loses contact and wala no spark
