I am just wondering if it is possible and compatible.

Any suggestions on a particular brand or model that you know would be best or one that you have seen mostly positive reviews and feedback on? Thanks for all the info.

On another note, can I add an ipod to my factory stereo via an interface module like the peripheral ipod2car? It says it will work with a vehicle specific cable, however I don't see any extra ports on the back of my radio. Do they plug into a port already used and replace what is there? I don't understand how this would work. Please let me know if you know anything about these.

To answer both questions, yes, but you need some experience in automotive electrical installation to do this yourself...I've seen supposed professional jobs that are totally unaccceptable. As far as systems go, I am not against the concept, but really would like to see a system that does not leave the owner locked out and tearing their hair out in a few months. If you buy one, do lots of research and get the best you can afford...consider customer statements and personal experiences to carry more weight than price. either way, good luck

Most practical research you can do is to check "consumer reports" and ask anyone you know that has one to see what problems (if any) they have had. Ive been fooled too many times by brands that used to be high quality, that now are very poor (how about a gps that only works after sunrise, made by a company that used to make very reliable, high end electronics) Its not the same as what you are looking for but in a way it is!

The one in my vehicle looks like a casette & goes in where the casette is installed. Pod just connects with a wire. My nephew uses it when he's in the car. I'm pretty much of a dinosaur when it comes to most of the new audio & computer items. (went deaf in one ear a few years back and everything sounds pretty bland without sterio) Though I used to build and design audio & special automotive circuts for my own use, I pretty much gave it up when this new micro stuff came into play. It costs too much, is unreliable and not user friendly unless you can become a nano and crawl inside. See if you can find install instructions for the pod and the radio you have. some manufacturers post these online instead of having to mail them to everyone who lost theirs. You will likely learn some good information there.

How Do I Know If My Car Equipped With A Keyless Entry Remote System? I have a 1999 Ford Windstar. I bought several remotes but can't get my locks to engage. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Cathy

It does indeed have keyless entry. It needs reprogramming when you get a new remote. Also if you disconnect the battery. Usually a local car alarm fitting shop, or an auto-electrician will do it. Plus of course a Ford dealership.

Which fuse powers the power door locks on a 2012 equinox? None of the doors lock or unlock with the fob, battery ok

Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (with Accessory 2 Way Remote)
Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (without Accessory 2 Way remote)

The keyless entry system is a vehicle entry device. The keyless entry system is used in conjunction with the body control module (BCM) to remotely activate certain vehicle features. Keyless entry will lock/unlock the doors/liftgate when a corresponding button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed. This is accomplished by the transmitter sending a radio frequency to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). The RCDLR interprets the signal and activates the requested function via a serial data message to the BCM. A low transmitter or vehicle battery or radio frequency (RF) interference from aftermarket devices, such as 2-way radios, power inverters, computers, etc., may cause a system malfunction. High RF traffic areas may also cause interference that could lead to a malfunction. Keyless entry allows you to operate the following components:
• Door locks
• Liftgate lock
• Vehicle locator/Panic alarm
• Illuminated entry lamps
• Remote vehicle start
The keyless entry system has the following components:
• Keyless entry transmitters
• Keyless entry antenna
• 2 Way Advanced Remote Start RCDLR
• BCM

Your best bet , take it to a GM dealer .

Diagnose keyless entry system of 1997 Cherokee

Before replacing any Relay. Try disconnecting the negative side of the battery for at least 2-minutes to de-energize the security system, re-setting itself. The reconnect the battery and try your security (and options) system again.
The only other big question that you will have to know: is this a factory installed security system or an aftermarket security system? This makes a difference in security systems, relays etc.

2000 Lincoln Towncar. Keypad on door will not unlock doors. Interior lights do come on. The last two keys pushed simultaneously will occasionally lock the doors. I am using the code printed on a sticker in...

The driver door module (DDM) is connected on the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communication network. The DDM controls many functions including power windows, power door locks and remote keyless entry. The DDM also communicates with the driver seat module (DSM) to control the power mirror and seat memory functions.
Do you know anything about automotive electronic control modules ?
The driver door module (DDM) receives inputs from the digital transmission range (DTR) sensor, ignition switch, seat switch, window/door lock switches, lighting control module (LCM), keyless entry keypad switch and remote transmitter. The DDM outputs consists of keyless entry keypad switch illumination, power door lock actuators, luggage compartment release solenoid, horn relay, and lighting control module (LCM).
Best thing to do would be to have a factory scan tool hooked up to check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . That should be the first step if it's not programming the code.
  • The doors do not lock/unlock using the keyless entry keypad
  • Keypad.
  • Circuitry.
  • Driver door module (DDM).
  • GO to Pinpoint Test L .

Remote keyless entry will not unlock vehicle, but interior elec power works, NO ENGINE!

I had the same problem with my 2007 Sahara Unlimited. I'll make a long story as short as possible. For a number of years my son ran a Chrysler / Jeep dealership and I contacted him (I bought my Jeep from him before he got out of the business) and he told me this is a sporadic problem with the Wrangler line. To the point of calling him I had tried everything and nothing worked...insert key, turn, nothing...all electrical worked, lights, power windows, radio, etc, etc. He told me to disconnect the negative power connection on the battery for a second or two then re-attach. Insert key, engine starts, everything works as advertised.

Essentially, my son told me this "re-boots" the system. For whatever, and to his knowledge, never explained by Jeep, this fix works but no idea as to why it happens in the first place.

Hope this is of some help...though I suggest that there may be more "fixes" to this problem.

Regards...
