Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 1984 mustang 5.0 carb. Ive recently haven't been able to start it. It sounds like the battery is dying but its new. I've even tried other batteries. I've changed the ignition module, starter solynoid, the pill in the distributor. And all wires and it still won't start. I have ran out of ideas. :(

SOURCE: My car was running, then

Hi,
You need to have the cam angle and crankshaft position sensors checked. These are 2 parts which enable the ignition system to fire. If these are ok then check that the rotor in the distributor is turning when you crank the engine.
If it is not turning then you have a cambelt/chain or gear problem which you will need to repair before it will start again.
Hope this helped.
Thanks
Jason

2003 mazda protege5 recently started dying when i am driving in the city

If you can't duplicate the problem on demand it will be tough to find.
Very strange the problem does not happen on the road.
You say it dies, and runs the battery down.
When it dies, are you parked ? Does everything go off when you take the key out ?
Can you start it back up when it dies, and if so how long ? Do you have to let it sit overnight before it will start again ?

My car has been acting funny recently (over the past month): electric front driver seat no longer operating to adjust height, and hesitation rolling down auto driver window. Also smelled electrical wiring...

sounds like a fuel issue: fuel pump, fuel filter, as far as the battery dying while driving it is an alternator problem if I am reading the issues correctly, now if it just died and would crank then it is not a charging issue, the other possibility is an ignition problem: crank senor, ignition module, coils, plugs. I hope this helps some Tim

MY 1984 GS CARB RUNS GOOD, STARTS GOOD WON'T IDLE BELOW 1500 RPMS, CLEANED CARB, ALL JETS CLEANED, JUST GOT IT AND WONDER IF SOMETHING NOT SET OR CONTROL HOSES ON WRONG, I HAD A 1984 NEW AND A 1985 YEARS...

Replace your fuel filter first, cheap and easy to rule out, probably needs it anyways. Could also be a massive vacuum leak. On that year's carb there are 2 adjustments... Here's a page on idle tuning: http://sterlingmetalworks.com/tuning_the_nikki.htm

Just bought a 1984 mustang its not run for years and wont start it turns over getting gas to the carb and has fire not sure about wiring

Any time a car sits for a long period of time you should completely drain the gas tank. The gas is more then likely stale. Try pouring a little new gas into the carb or use starting fluid. If it starts you have found your problem and will more then likely have to drain and clean the tank and replace the fuel filter.
If it does not start with the new gas, it is either a compression or timing issue. If you have spark at the plugs, and GOOD fuel in the carb and it still wont start I would check the timing. If the timing is on, check compression. If the engine sat to long with no oil in the cylinders they can build up condensation and rust. Then when you try to start it with the rust in the cylinders it can destroy the rings and cause compression loss.

Engien wont start!?!

You might need a new starter or a new alternator. Get it checked at a shop to make sure you find the right thing that you need to change.
