Probably best to just replace converter. If you must try, use a very strong magnet, hold unit upside down tap with hammer and pull.

Replaced front seal on my '97 Dodge Ram 1500, V6

Assembly of converter to trans and then tunit to engine? The torque converter must engage and slide into the front pump. The seal is easily damamaged if not properly fitted.Once the trans is against the engine the converter can be slid forward to bolt the flex plste. There should not be more than approx. 1/4 inch between the converter and trans bell housing if the converter is properly mated to the trans. Good Luck, Ned.

You are suppose to put the torque converter on the bell housing first, then align the engine to the torque converter slot. I hope nothing has been damaged.
