Sounds like catalytic converter needs replacement or elimination which is allowed in some states.

SOURCE: i have a 1981 ford

If it's a V-engine and the other manifold doesn't get red the one that does may draw some air, i.e. the seal between the block and the exhaust is gone. If you don't replace it, the manifold will melt.

SOURCE: manifolds glow red

more times than not it's going to be the o2 sensor if your smelling sulfur. you should also notice a significant drop in fuel mileage as o2 sensors tend to send wrong messages and you use way more fuel

Yes, they are made of a very thin steel, so watch for cracks in them.

The exhaust system could be blocked between the engine and the tail pipe. The fuel mixture could be too rich or too lean.
Is the check engine light on ?
Can you rev the engine up in park ?

You are not getting fuel. EIther bad fuel pump or plugged fuel filter. No fuel pressure and it starts for a second with starting fluid, then there is no fuel being pumped to fuel lines.

1986 Pontiac Fiero V6 2.8L rebuilt..I started it up, within 45 seconds the exhaust manifolds turn bright red and start burning up. I triple checked the timing, it is idling a bit higher than normal still....

That is usually from a clogged catalytic convertor and/or the pre-cat or collector that sits in between the manifold and the cat. If you left the pre-cat on, remove it and see what the result is.
