SOURCE: 1993 E-150 - OBD I or OBD II

All cars built since January 1, 1996 have OBD-II systems. Manufacturers started incorporating OBD-II in various models as early as 1994. Some early OBD-II cars were not 100% compliant.

check the link to see which vehicles were not compliant.

SOURCE: Where is the connector for the obd II scanner

It doesn't have obd 2, It has a eec 4 connector under the hood. They make scanners to read codes on these but if you scanner only has one plugin, it isn't going to work.

I would first check for error codes using an OBD-II scanner tool- then research the Diagnostic Troubleshoot Code(s) to point you in the direction of the problem. Most common error is when DIYers read the scanner tool and automatically assume scanner codes pulled will pinpoint the exact problem. Scanner tools vary in scope. The bottom line, use the tool as a starting reference point, but you will have to test the component to make sure it is the one that is malfunctioning. Knocking engine

Instructions
1. Plug in your OBD II (on-board diagnostics) scanner to your OBD II port, which is usually located near the steering column. Many models have the OBD II port on the left side of the under-console of the driver's side dash, near the door. If your car was manufactured prior to the 1994 production year, you may need to use an OBD I translator, which plugs into your OBD II scanner.

2. Turn on your scanner, which may require you to turn your car to the "Acc" position, and read the codes that appear. Use a manual that comes with the scanner to translate the codes.

3. Replace any sensors that come up in the OBD II scan. Multiple sensors work together in order to help fire and time the ignition process for the engine's combustion. The knock sensor particularly helps to sense the engine vibration patterns and regulate the timing in accordance, and may account for excessive engine vibration if the sensor is failed. You may need to remove several components and engine parts in order to access specific sensors, depending on your make, model and engine design. You may also need to raise your vehicle on car ramps in order to access the underside of the engine to remove and replace certain sensors.

4. Replace engine and transmission mounts if needed. This process can vary from vehicle to vehicle, however it usually involves using one or two floor jacks to support the weight of the engine while unbolting one or more engine mounts. Each engine mount also has its own insulator and rubber stopper materials, which are critical to the engine mount's functioning. Failed engine mounts do not necessarily lead to damaging other engine components and is not a fix critical to the proper functioning of your car engine.

5. Inspect your harmonic balancer, which is connected to the crankshaft via a drive belt and serves to reduce and absorb some of the vibrations caused by the crankshaft itself. Loosen and remove the drive belt by turning the belt tensioner bolt. Unbolt the harmonic balancer with a torque wrench and inspect the insulator component, which should be in good shape. Replace the harmonic balancer if the insulator is cracked or showing signs of wear and tear, or if it is missing.

2000 Ford F250 Supercab-Engine light comes on even after you reset it. No code shows up when you scan it.

If it is a diesel engine then unfortunatley they are NOT OBD II compliant. They do have the OBD II port but the scanners you can use at the A/P store won't pull those code(s). You will have to use a scanner that pulls PSD code(s) or go to a shop with the equipment or the dealer.

My check engine light is on. How do I turn it off?

On the 1997 Lincoln Town Car, it has an OBD-II computer on it where an OBD-II scanner can clear the engine light by erasing the codes, after repairs are performed on the circuit that originally tripped the check engine light.

One can buy an OBD-II engine scanner for under $100 from Sears or Walmart, or a local auto parts store, or even Ebay.com or Amazon.com.

Service engine soon light is on

Have the engine's obd-II computer scanned with an obd-II scanner at autozone or advance auto parts, or by your own obd-II scanner that you can buy for under $100 at Walmart or Sears.

This will help to identify which circuit is bad on the vehicle, or what system is causing the SES light to go on.

Good luck on this diagnosis and repair.

I have a 96 mazda b4000 and the check engine light is on how can you clear the code without using a scanner?

In obd-II vehicles, you can clear the code by having 40 or more cycles of start and run conditions followed by turning off the ignition completely without having an engine anomoly or issue.

It's easier to use the clear codes button on the obd-II scanner.

Nowadays, you can buy an OBD-II scanner for less than $100 at Walmart. I just got one.

Good luck on this.
