Front brakes grinding

I have a 2003 Ford Escape 2wd. Recently, the front brakes will grind when applied. It is not a normal grind that occurs when the brakes need to be replaced but rather a grind you can feel in the pedal. Also, if you either release and/or pump the brakes, the grind will go away. I did change the front pads and rotors. However, the grind still occurs.

It's weird that you can feel the grinding in the pedal. My Highlander's brakes grind when I press on them, but I think it's because the pads need to be replaced. I'm going to take my car to a brake service, and you probably should too, just in case the problem is serious.http://fastautotech.com/brake-service-tw...

Sur it is a grind and not like the ABS is going off which could mean a sensor is bad or dirty .more like a pulsating growl

Grinding noise when step on the break.

Hi,

The grinding noise could be indicative that the brake pads have worn off and the metal backing is grinding with the brake disc. This is further supported by the emergency brake light indicator which would illuminate (even when emergency/park brake is not engaged) when the brake fluid is low or the pads are too thin or gone (as in your probable case). Even though the grinding sound is only on the left side, it would be to your advantage to repalce both sides. Additionally, pls have the disc themselves checked as they may need re-surfacing.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

After changing the front brake pads on my 2003 ford escape and a week later my ABS light comes on after just a few minutes,or stops, I'm not sure which. Until the light comes on it feels like the ABS...

if you feel grinding then you have not properly installed the pads
the abs sensor is in the same area so maybe you damaged or partially loosened the sensor

2002 Ford Escape 2WD. No drive on passenger wheel.

the reason you could do that was because it does not have positraction in the differential and it is designed that way for when you take turns so each axle can spin at a different speed. and the ginding noise with the brakes can be misinstalled hardware or a warped rotor.

I have a 2008 Honda LXP purchased Novemebr 2008. It has 21000 miles on the clock. From and since 15,000 miles I heard a grinding sound when I applied the brakes after the car was stationary for over 10...

from my experience its sounds like ur front rotors may need resurfaceing...if ur doing that...may as well replace the brakes on the front as well...sometimes glazed front brake pads may make a sound but never heard of it as a grind, usually its a squeal...have ur dealer check ur rotors for hot spots in which u would need them replaced if they are overheated..also check the front pads for cracked brake pad material
