SOURCE: rear head cam marks

Hi There, Didn't see your name so it's difficult to be personal. Right mister Pimpernel, this is what we need to do. the timing belt synchronizes the cam shafts with the crank shaft. These must all run in synchronization so that the valves can open without hitting the pistons as the come up to Top Dead Center. This is what we need to do. Remove the timing belt and set the Crankshaft at TDC. You should then see a mark on the block (The front oil seal housing) which aligns with the mark on the timing gear. Make sure they are perfectly aligned! Next remove the camshaft caps and identify the alignment marks on both cams. Before proceeding further check to see if there is a spring loaded section on the camshafts If there is place the cams into a vise protecting them with strips cut from a rubber mat or something similar. Rotate the tension gear and lock it in position with a ten millimeter bolt. Look for the match marks on both cams and then align them so that when fitted they keep alignment. (At Top Dead Center the cam lobes of number one piston should be pointing away from the valve underneath. The stroke is at the end of compression and about to go to ignition. All valves for number one will be closed. The firing order is 1342, meaning that as number one is beginning the ignition stroke, number four will be on overlap, with the exhaust valves almost closed and the intake valves already beginning to open. The overlap is to make the expulsion of the exhaust gas more efficient and to help the induction of the explosive mixture of fuel and air. (Did you know the optimum mixture is fourteen and a half parts of air to one part of fuel?) There's a piece of useless information for you, but the rest isn't! Let me know how you get on. Regards John

2001 gmc safari cargo van, there are two large bolts located just inside the rear doors on floor aproxx 12" from rear doors they are large torx head 1-1/2" long bolts. What are they for???

My guess would be to hold the van body to the frame. I've noticed the manufacturers like using Torx and other patterns that many homeowners don't have in their toolbox.....I'm guessing for safety and litigation reasons.

Timing marks for the Dodge 2.4L caravan, 2000

To align both sets of timing marks, turn engine crankshaft to the right with belt on cam and crank. Once you have done this the crankshaft alignment mark (on front of crankshaft gear) will line up with mark to the rear of gear on engine block. The two cam gear timing marks should be alines across from one another. The right cam gear is the intake side and the left side is the exhaust side. After removing the belt turn the exhaust cam down 1/2 notch. Timing mark on exhaust 1/2 notch down from the intake side. Install new belt and recheck everything to make sure it's all correct. Hope this will help you.

Discription of what they are for

Well it really depends on the model. There are 3 general categories these vans fall in. They are as follows.

1. cargo van
2. seat van
3. RV

1. Cargo vans are used for hauling stuff that you want secured somewhat from theft and water and do not want to mess with a trailer. Contractors fit them with boxes etc to put their tools in .
2. Seat Vans come with as many seats as they can fit in and generally have plenty of windows and are used for hauling people back and forth. Churches and schools often use these vans.
3. RV or recreational vehicles are vans that have been fixed up with a bed and sink inside and are used by people to go camping with a moderate amount of convenience. While it is still smaller then home they can cook and sleep in them. Families of 4 can do so relatively easily. Any more then 4 and it starts getting a bit cramped though I would not say impossible.,
Hope that helped you out as for understand the versatility of the common van.
:)

Need a rear end diagram for 1995 chevy cargo van 2 determine parts needed.Leaking throu tire

if you are leaking gear oil through the tire you need an axle shaft seal there is also a axle bearing there unless it is a full floating axle which means the axle has a flange on the wheel end that bolts on. if you go to the chevy dealership near you go to parts and they can print you out a break down of the axle according to your vin number on the van

Need timing marks for 2002 ford explorer 4.0 engine. trying 2 check timing chain. any one know specs

There are no marks on this one. There is a special tool set to align camshafts ($900). The best you can do is to bring #1 cyl to TDC compression with both cam(valve) covers off. #5 cyl should have lobes at equal opening, exhaust just closing and intake just opening.. #1 cyl cam lobes should each be diametrically opposed to the positions of #5. If cams need to be moved, there is no registration of gear onto cam. Just loosen bolt holding gear and move cam. Retighten bolt. Roll thru 2 crank revolutions and check cam timing again.Simple.

Dodge Grand Caravan 2005 P0016 code

Im assuming it is an engine that uses a timing belt. It sounds like the belt has jumped 1 tooth. if it only jumped 1 tooth than the computer will compesate the timing so it is possible the sensors will say they are ok. If it is a motor that uses a chain than it problaly needs a new gear/chain set.
