Chrysler 1999 Sebring rear window motor

I fixed my rear quarter panel window (driver's side) at no cost. I removed the assembly/window and thought I would have to replace the assembly and motor. Once I saw the price I began to investigte the problem with the original part. I removed the window from the assembly. (did not want to break it) I found that the cable was binding on the main pulley connected to the motor. I removed the three screws that held the pulley/motor housing. I removed the motor and plugged it back into the power supply and it worked. I realigned the cable and reinstalled the housing and motor. I plugged it into the power supply and it ran, but noticed that the cable was somewhat loose causing the cable to bind on the main pulley. If I kept tension on the cable it seemed to operate correctly. To keep tension on the cable, I put a plastic tie strap around the two cable parts just above the bottom cable guide (about 1 1/2 inch above cable guide) - pulling the strap until there was sufficient tension on the cable (not real tight). The strap kept tension the cable and the tension kept the cable from coming off the pulley when the widow operated. I bolted the window back on (do not over tighted the bolts or the window may break). Reinstalled everythng - checked the window alignment with the front window - tested the operation and it worked like new. I put everything back together and was able to fix my non working window for the price of a plastic tie and a couple of hours of figuring out the problem. I think I could do the whole process in less than an hour now. I would check out this solution before spending 175 for a new motor or 250 for a new assembly. CountryRidgeBBQ@aol.com

Fig. 7: Typical power steering pump hose routing-1996 shown

The following procedure requires the use of the GM Puller tool No. J-29785-A (1985-92), Puller J-25034-B (1993-96) or equivalent, and the GM Pulley Installer tool No. J-25033-B or equivalent.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
  2. For 1996 vehicles, remove the air cleaner assembly for access.
  3. For 1993-96 vehicles, remove the hood latch and the upper fan shroud.
  4. Release tension and remove the drive belt.
  5. Remove the power steering pump pulley using a suitable puller tool.
  6. Remove the power steering pump retaining bolts, then reposition the pump as necessary for access to the hoses.
  7. Position a fluid catch pan under the power steering pump.
  8. Remove the hoses from the power steering pump and drain the excess fluid into the catch pan.
WARNING Be sure to cap all openings in the pump hydraulic system to prevent excessive fluid spillage and the possibility of system contamination.
  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Position the pump to the vehicle, then uncap and connect the pump hoses.
  2. Install the steering pump to the retaining bracket, then secure using the retaining bolts. Tighten the power steering pump-to-bracket bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). For 1996 vehicles, tighten the nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
On early-model vehicles where the drive belt is tensioned by pivoting the power steering pump assembly, do NOT fully tighten the mounting bolts at this time, since you will just have to loosen them again for belt installation and adjustment.
  1. Install the pump pulley using the GM Pulley Installer tool No. J-25033-B or equivalent. Press the drive pulley onto the power steering pump.
  2. Hand-tighten the pivot bolt, the adjusting bolt and the washer.
  3. Install the drive belt. On early-model vehicles so equipped, properly adjust the belt tension. For details on belt installation and tension adjustment.
  4. For 1993-96 vehicles install the upper fan shroud and the hood latch assembly.
  5. For 1996 vehicles, install the air cleaner assembly.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Refill the power steering reservoir and bleed the power steering system.
  8. Remove the jackstands and carefully lower the vehicle.
  9. Road test the vehicle, then check and top-off the power steering fluid.

hope this help (remember rated this post) Good luck.

The water pump can be removed and installed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped).
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling System-Draining and Filling.
  3. Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse. WARNING: Constant tension hose clamps are used on most cooling system hoses. When removing or installing, use only tools designed for servicing this type of clamp, such as special clamp tool (number 6094). snap-on clamp tool (number HPC-20) may be used for larger clamps. Always wear safety glasses when servicing constant tension clamps. CAUTION: A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.
  4. Remove upper radiator hose clamp and hose at radiator.
  5. The thermal viscous fan drive is attached (threaded) to the water pump hub shaft. Remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from front. Threads on viscous fan drive: are RIGHT HAND. A Snap-On 36 MM Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) can be used. Place a bar or screwdriver between water pump pulley bolts to prevent pulley from rotating. Do not attempt to remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle at this time.
  6. If water pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blade assembly from thermal viscous
  7. Remove fan shroud attaching hardware (two bolts at bottom-two clips at top).
  8. Remove fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle as a complete unit.
  9. After removing fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly, do not place thermal viscous fan drive in horizontal position. If stored horizontally, silicone fluid in viscous fan drive could drain into its bearing assembly and contaminate lubricant.
  10. Do not remove water pump pulley bolts at this time.
  11. Remove accessory drive belt as follows: The drive belt is equipped with a spring loaded automatic tensioner. Relax tension from belt by rotating tensioner clockwise (as viewed from front). When all belt tension has been relaxed, remove accessory drive belt.
  12. Remove four water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and remove pulley from vehicle.
