I have a 2001 Nissan xterra that started AGAIN hesitating to accelerate. I recently (about a week ago) replace knock sensor, idle air control sensor, manifold gaskets, did trans oil change, and a complete tune up for same reason. It worked fine for few days but once again problem started. When I press gas it accelerates really slow and when going over any size bump or hill it loses velocity even though I am pressing the gas. There are no lights turned on indicating what the problem might be. Another thing I noticed, and I don't know if its normal, but when I turn off car lots of popping noises like the rice krispy cereals can be heard from under....Can anyone please help?

SOURCE: Engine runs rough after about ten minutes /idles really low

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.

Check the timing and compression of the engine. It sounds like you either have a blown head gasket or a the timing jumped.

2000 Nissan Pathfinder Rough Idle, Hesitating on Acceleration, Misfiring/Backfiring

Ok P0325 Knock sensor (Bank 1) There is a way to test the resistance, but I dont know the specific Ohms for your vehicle.
P0400 EGR Flow This means that there is a buildup of carbon and other things in all the passages that go to the EGR. Clean them out before looking at the knock sensor. Bad misfires can cause the knock sensor to go out of range. EricTheCarGuy has some excellent videos (youtube) explaining how to go about this.

Knock sensors are common, but you wont have any problems from it. Verify good spark plugs and wires, cap and rotor. It may be time for a pro to check it and not waste money guessing.

if you have an O2 sensor faliure you will have a code for it. in fact youe exterra doesnt have O2 sensors. it has A/F sensor or "air/fuel sensor" if it went bad, than you will have a code for that sensor. What is the code number that you have?? need to start there.

it is possibly the throttle position sensor(tps) malfunctioning. basically the computer or "brain" of the car thinks the throttle is in a different position than it really is and automatically makes adjustments to fuel, air ect.... based on these false readings from the sensor thus causing the engine to react a little different when you expect to have power.

the only component that they sggested you replace that could damage the ecm is the idle air control motor.it is very common for these to short out when they fail and damage the drivers that control them in the ecm.you say you recently replaced idle copntrol motor?did you get it from nissan?if not have it checked for proper resistanc across coils(22 ohms?).alsolook for sign of coolant in valve or valve bore as mounting gasket failure can allow coolant to damage valve.as a rule sensors can not damage ecm only actuators can.another common one on these are the electronic motor mounts.....when they short thy damage ecm.good luck.

2001 Xterra - Replaced fuel pump twice and is still not running.

I am no expert, but I just had a similar problem. The car would shake and buck when accelerating. It finally just died and would not start. After sitting for some time, the car would start and run a while, then do the same thing. I thought fuel pump. The dealer diagnosed distributor. After replacing, the car is running perfect. Something to think about. Good luck.
