went to change the air filters on my mk4 1.0l polo and noticed a split pipe coming from the front of the carb and there was white gunk in there and the main one going to the airbox on top of the rocker. ive cleaned the pipes out and the shuddering stopped (in low revs) but its back again. is there a cheap way to solve this?went to change the air filters on my mk4 1.0l polo and noticed a split pipe coming from the front of the carb and there was white gunk in there and the main one going to the airbox on top of the rocker. ive cleaned the pipes out and the shuddering stopped (in low revs) but its back again. is there a cheap way to solve this?

Depending on the type of system you have, carburettor - there is a idle srew near the carb linkages, that you can turn up with the engine running that will adjust the idle. Also if its idling too high sometimes the autochoke could be stuck. If its injection - the idle solenoid could be gunked up. Remove and clean with carb cleaner or petrol then refit. And it will idle high at start then will settle Once engine reaches operating temp. Hope it helps
smoking from where?, front of car, middle or tail pipe.
is this your first car, or first car and first winter (white steam?)
there are 3 kinds of smoke
black , carb flooding (ask why)
white, oil, burning, take for ever to go away
white steam, goes away fast and smells like Antifreeze, sweet and nasty.
and all carbs smoke black in the tail pipe end, when cold, unless
you very carefully tune the choke plate.
so do tell? what?
I would recommend an oil change first and second I suggest that you get in the habit of checking and topping up the oil as it is critical that you keep the oil level correct. Less oil hotter oil hence smoke and possible engine failure
Pull the carburetor off and rebuilt it, the float is stick or the fuel inlet valve is defective. The carb kits come with full rebuilding instructions, but if you have never done a carby overhaul it is best left to a professional.
Crankshaft sensor is located on the right side of the cylinder block behind or under the starter. It is fitted into the rear crankshaft oil seal hausing
you need the repair manual for your car the manual will properly help you how to fix the problem and you can get the manual from the given link http://toolsnyou.com/
you probably have a build up of "gunk" in the fuel pipe or injection system, the popping and stalling when accelarating could be tied to this (the valves probably gunked up) their is a kit wal-mart has that may help its a fuel injection (carb) cleaner the kit you can do at home and comes with directions or it can be done in the automotive garage.
Hello, VW polos 1.0, 1.4. 1.6, suffer from carbon bulid up in the throttle bodys causing bad idling, esp the Bosch Mono-Motronic (Throttle Body Injection systems), a good clean with carb cleaner should repair the problem, also engine temp sensor replacement and idle speed control valve replacement can help idle problems.

Sounds like coolant in the oil
