Eaton Fuller RTX14609B transmission Grinds when shifting from low to high range. It does not grind when shifting from High range to low range. I think it needs a new High / Low range shift synchronizer assy

SOURCE: 2004 f250 won't shift into 4wd low range.

I'm pretty sure the truck has to be at a complete stop with the transmission in neutral before it will accept your low range input selection. Unlike 4wd high.

That is not recommended, as it could cause transmission damage. Since you have a VTEC you should get a power boost at around 5000 rpm which should make climbing hills easier and not need a shift of the transmission.

Check and see if your Vacuum Lines are broken... That is probably the issue

the low speed piston is not moving
could be dry and need lubrication
possible probble in the button , not allowing air pressure past when you select the low range

My eaton fuller transmission wont shift past 5th when it tries to get into 6th gear it just makes a grinding noise


how many gears in this transmission remembering that Eaton make from 5 speeds up to 21 speeds in their range of transmissions
so if you have a 9 speed box and attempt to select 6 gear without using the range change you will be selecting probably first again
Don't assume that everybody knows what box you have so include all make , model year , equipment application in your posts as they are not linked

Shifter for low and high range won't switch from high to low 10 speed eaton fuller manual transmission


the small air valve at the box will be suspect as they tend to seize up and not move
check that the plastic air lines to the switch or box are still intact
check that the gear knob is operational
some knobs are where you move the lever sideways to change the ratio and others have a pull up knob under the lever handle
the flick switch sometimes develops problems in the rubber"O" rings

I have a 1995 Silverado 4x4. The 4WD will not engage. Someone told me it may be the actuator for the transfer case. When I try to shift into 4hi, nothing happens. When I try to shift into 4lo, it grinds...


I HAD A BLAZER WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR AND SOLVED PROBLEM. TRANSFER CASE MOTOR SHIFTS FROM HIGH TO LOW GEAR IN THE TRANSFER CASE AND TELLS THE FRONT ACTUATORS TO INGAGE FRONT HUBS . MOTOR WON'T MOVE TO 4 HIGH AND GRINDS WHEN TRYING TO MOVE TO 4 LOW, TRANSFER CASE MOTOR FAILING . CHECK VACUUM LINES AND ACTUATORS ON FRONT DIFF THEY FAIL, CAN CHANGE TO CABLE ENGAGEMENT INSTEAD OF FAILURE PRONE VACUUM ACTUATORS.

The transfer case is stuck in the low range. If manual shift try shifting from low to high several times to see if free up. If electronic, check all fuses and make sure you hear transfer case change range. Do this by shifting with key on engine off. If no change refer to qualified transmission mechanic.
