1996 ford conture shift cable adjustment

if you have replaced the shift cable and everything is working other than the dash indicator, that is adjusted by turning a small plastic nut on the right lower right side of the column (it's on a plastic bolt portion of the string leading up and around to the actual pointer)
if you need to adjust it because the vehicle is not shifting out of park correctly or through the gears correctly, something is warn out, usually the cable mounting portion of the column, the actual shift points are set inside the transmission and you can not easily fix any of that

How do i replace the dashboard light bulb for a 1985 el camino

you need to disconnect the speedometer then remove the 6 or 8 screws that hold the instrument panel to the dash.if its an automatic you will have to unhook the shift indicator cable from the shift colume.then pull the instrument panel out of the dash, turn the panel upside down and you will see the bulb sockets.replace all the bulbs at this time so you won`t have to do this again for another bulb.when hooking up the shift indicator cable make sure it indicates the properly selected gear when moving the shifter to each gear position.

What type of shifter cable does 1994 Mercury Villiager have

Don"t know about a shifter cable but if you problem is a loose shift lever that will not engage the proper choice(R D N 2) your problem is most likely a loose or missing bolt on the shift mechanism under the dash. Did you find a gold colored bolt on the driver side floor? If you did this is the one of the shift mechanism's bolts. Get under the dash with a flashlight and move the **** lever. You will then see the shift mechanism move. The mechanism has two bolts. If both are visible thighten them securley. If one is missing replace it. The culprit is usually the right bolt(sitting in driver seat or left if you are looking up under the dash. I was told that the problem was a defective shift cable but that was not the problem.

u need to adjust the shift linkage cables, the adjustment is made at the trans end of the shift cables, very involved, u will need a repair manual to get it right and also a possible set of new shift cables as well..

The dash board panel lights are out for the most part. The speedo is 1/2 iluminated. Could this be a fuse ? If not, how involved is it to change the lights?

i think it could be bulb issue.

you have to remove the dash board and replace bulbs that are busted. replacing the bulb is no problem . the problem is taking the dash off. need to remove the dash cover first before you can remove the actual dash.

another thing to consider is the speedometer cable which is attached at the center of the gauge.

tnx 4 using fixya,
