Sounds like a miss under load, either a weak spark or fuel injector issue.
Is the check engine light on ?

Testimonial: "The engine is running fine. I had the drive line rebuilt, and that didn't fix it. Possibly checking engine mounts next."

    It is not the ignit

It is not the ignition or engine running. More of a torque issue. May try to check engine mounts next.

SOURCE: fiat punto acceleration problems

nikki,

I had a similar problem with a 98 sporting. It turned out to be firstly the clutch had worn down to almost nothing and the fuel filter hadn't been changed in a good while so it got clogged. I would do the filter first. (located just under the drivers side near the rear wheel.

When we accelerate uphill or try going past 60 on the freeway, we hear a pop, the van shakes and feels forced to respond. Have replaced the fuel pump and problem continues.

1997 Ford Aerostar...rattle in front wheels...rattle stops when I step on the brakes... Also...vibration when I accelerate and when I slow down.

Hello, it sounds like you have a possible wheel bearing or brake problem. first support the van on jackstands and shake the front tires, if you feel alot of play in the wheel bearings they may need to be tightened up, this is done by using a torque wrench to set the bearing load, if you need to get the torque sequence it can be found in the repair manuals at auto parts stores. if you shake the wheels and it feels tight with no excessive play it may be a brake issue, you need to look at the backing plate to make sure it isnt rubbing on the rotor.

Could very well be low fluid in torque converter or the very common automatic torque converter clutch circuit failure in many GM vehicles.
