Check the big red wire on the back of the alternator for power. The wire likes to get corroded in half inside the casing but is still held together BY the casing. you can even take a jumper cable from the positive side of the battery to the big/single wire on the back of the alternator. Now , you could have a bad ground also. take a voltmeter or test light and with the ground of the tester on the ground of the battery check for power on the case of the alternator. Another thing , does the alternator or charge light on the dash light up woth the key off? the alternator knows to "start-up" or "field-up" by the power it recieves through the bulb before the engine is started. once the engine starts the small brown wire on the alternator goes hot and shuts the light on the dash off cause it now has power on both legs of it. if the bulb blows then the alternator won't field-up. good luck. If the engine is turning over and it still wont start try shooting a little starting fluid in the air cleaner to see if it will run .. if so your fuel pump is either bad or the fuel filter is getting dirty.. thanks and holler if you need more Jerry

You probably have a parasitic battery drain. A good way to diagnose this is to disconnect the battery ground and plug in a light (a head lamp bulb is ideal, drains a lot of amps) in between the battery ground and the ground cable. Now with the key off, door closed (leave the driver door open but close the latch with a screwdriver or similar object) and every accessorie off, the bulb should not light (you'll have to wait a few minutes so all the modules go in sleep mode) After 10 minutes, if the bulb still light, even slightly, you've got you're self a drain. Now to diagnose, simply start with the undehood fuse block and pull fuses one by one until the bulb goes off. That will tell you witch circuit is causing the drain. put the fuse back in and confirm the light goes on again. Then verify what is in that fuse's circuit (wiring diagram realy useful here). You may also go pull the fuses in the instrument pannel fuse block to center in on the faulty circuit. Then you should concentrate on that cicuit to find the drain. Could be a wire or component short to ground or even a faulty connection or ground. Sounds complicated but it's not that hard.
Good luck

Chevrolet Lumina wont charge

I ran into this problem along time ago on a chevrolet beretta i replaced the alternator and then the battery and it still wouldnt charge come to find out it was the red wire that runs from the battery to the starter the end that connects to the starter was broke and wouldnt let the battery recharge, so this is what i would check next the part only costed about 50 cents at the parts place and is very easy to replace. hope this helps.

My Honda Accord wont start even with a jump. The lights come on but wont turn over. No click, no sound, no nothing

IT's those short drives that burn down a battery! The starting of an engine requires mucho electric to get it running. The alternator then charges the battery, but slowly! If you also have the lights and stereo on it is even slower. Get the battery FULLY charged with a commercial battery charger. Then check to see if the alternator is charging up the battery after you start it. If not, replace the alternator. If the battery dies overnight or in a few days...replace the battery.

Hello my name is becca i have a 2000 hyundai accent it was fine one night the next day i went out to start it it wouldnt got a boost it started but once the ground cable was taken off it died in seconds...

Batteries sometimes die completely for no apparent reason even though they were working fine only hours beforehand. Try another / new battery and get the alternator fuse checked, because it should not be obviously split, and replaced if necessary because with the fuse out, the battery will not be recharged. The alternator charging rate appears to be OK but have it checked anyway.

Hi I just bought a 2004 Mazda 323 and I had to turn the key twice to start it. The next day it wouldnt start at all until I charged the battery with jumper cables. The third day it wouldnt start again even...

if you go by the green light on the top of the battery that is a false indicator it only shows the one cell of the battery it is in,so that cell could be good and the rest could be bad.how bright were the lights when turned on,I would take the battery out and have it checked out.If you do have a new battery installed then have the alternator checked also just for piece of mind if the alternator is going bad it will kill a new battery fairly quickly.Ill be will to bet it's just the battery I hope this helped good luck

Check your battery cables and terminals. If they are ok, check your altenator because it might not be charging the battery properly.

ENGINE CRANKS BUT WONT TURN OVER

you meant its a NO CRANK engine.
silent starter, say the word silent.
even the starter relay must click.
and if head lamps die, so will be the starter.
due to a dead battery,
sounds like a bad battery to me. dead or only
DISCHARGED.
if the Charge/battery lamp is off in the cluster driving. its ok. the alternator.

starter car with the jumper cables connected
and not next day.
only live jumps matter. or you go know where.
if you want to walmart they have tool there that
tests the alternator
battery
and for phantom drains all in 6 min work, the tool does all the work.

if the battery is charged, it will crank I bet
its discharging.
for 1 of 3 reasons.
1: its bad.
2: the charge system is dead.
3: phantom drains, it goes dead as you sleep
the head lamps dead is the big clue there.

Wont start

Start vehicle up and take vehicle to an AUTO-ZONE they will check the entire charging system for FREE. This could BAD battery or a BAD alternator or even maybe both. So let not guess or if you have a volt meter at home with vehicle running voltage at battery polls should be at least 14 volts and without vehicle is running battery should be at least 12volts how ever with voltmeter you can't LOAD-TEST battery or alternator, But if alternator is less than 14volts it may be charging too low and if batter is less than 12 after it was fully charged or after car had been running for at least 15 minutes> BATTERY IS BAD> Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA
