Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
I am familiar with both of these problems, but in my experience they are unrelated.
The clicking from the dash sounds like the flasher cycling very fast:
Problem: The combination switch (turn signals/wipers) on the steering column is shorting out.
Fix 1. Go to the dealer, leave your car and pay through both nostrils for them to fix it.
Fix 2. At your own risk, spray contact cleaner (some have used WD40) into the combination switch while operating the turn signals. (No guarantees, but it's worked on two of my MKIV TDIs)
As far as the automatic transmission, I bear bad news: These are known pieces of...junk. They often die quickly, they are very expensive to replace, and consensus in the TDI community is that attempts to repair them amount to throwing good money after bad. Hopefully your problem is minor. I wish you the best of luck.
